This is the exciting new start of Royal Pains season 2. If you haven’t been watching this show then I highly recommend you get involved now. You can see many of the episodes on hulu if you need to get caught up.

The basic premise of the show is a very good doctor named Hank Lawson had a good job and made a bad decision to save the life of a kid off the streets instead of a hospital board member billionaire. He thought the billionaire was stable and was going to be fine but unfortunately he took a turn for the worse dying.

The hospital was obviously extremely upset with this decision and Hank got fired for it.

The unfortunate chain of events that unfolded has Hank ending up staying with a German multimillionaire possibly even a billionaire. The guys name is Boris. Hank happens to be at his party one night when a guest falls ill. The doctor Boris had was doing something that was going to kill the patient when Hank steps in to stop it.

Boris was impressed with how Hank handled the situation and invites him to stay in the guest house. Of course he has to kick out the current Dr. who was staying.

So began Hank’s journey.

He was just out there on vacation but ended up falling into what’s called a concierge doctor.

Basically you can think of it like “the old days where the doctor would come to you and bring all of his medical supplies with him.” This is in stark contrast to today when we have to go to the hospital where the doctors are.

Obviously, if you’re very wealthy like many of the people who live or stay in the Hamptons the privacy of a concierge doctor is highly desired.

At the end of last season Hank’s brother Evan Lawson who is also the chief financial officer of Hankmed which is their company had gotten them in trouble. He trusted their swindling father who ended up taking all their money.

They are now in a major cash crunch and what this episode is all about.

A far bigger problem for Evan who really looks up to his older brother Hank is that he has broken Hank’s trust.

Divvya is their very capable Indian physician assistant. At the end of last season she was scheduled to move forward on a marriage arranged by her parents. She was having serious doubts which she expressed to Evan even though she has a general dislike for him.

They had come to an understanding that she was going to break off the engagement but we learn in this episode that she did not. She explains her reasoning that sometimes you have to give up one dream for a bigger dream. Her bigger dream was maintaining her family which is the most important thing to her.

And she shines a reflective light on Evan saying that Hank is far more important to him than his father and first he must repair the brotherly bond before he can repair the company’s finances.

Jill who works at the Hamptons Heritage hospital was dating Hank for quite a while in season 1. They got very close.

She is now under extreme duress as this season starts out.

Hank is the second doctor that she has become romantically involved with. This causes the other doctors at the hospital and the hospital’s board members to question where her loyalties lie. They wonder if she can keep business and personal separate.

The hospital has become understaffed and the head surgeon is upset with having to perform duties that she deems beneath her skill set.

We are strongly led to believe that she has been relieved of her duties.

Hank ends up dealing with this spastic patient. He’s an infomercial guy whose father has just died and gets into a whole ton of mishaps and misadventures during this episode. One almost takes out his life.

Boris is having continued struggles with a congenital defect disease that was revealed last season. It has killed all of his male ancestors when they are in their 40s.

Boris is definitely at this stage and can see the finish line.

Hank definitely wants to help him but doesn’t really know what he’s dealing with because there is no cure. Details of the disease are sketchy at best. There’s no research being done.

Evan does a couple cool things in an attempt to dig himself out of the doghouse. There’s a big finish to this episode and definitely a rousing action-packed start to what should be an outstanding sophomore season of this well-written show.

You should get into this show. What else are you going to do in the hottest parts of the summer months?
