This episode opens with Max being his predictable self. He and his dad are riding on a forklift having a grand old time when his dad tells him that the shoes are arranged by style and size.
Max starts seeing a lot of styles in the wrong places and starts asking his father why the size of this brand of shoe is in with the wrong brand. Adam can only attribute it to human error.
This was the penultimate episode leading up to the season finale. Some of our characters will be moving away and the family’s strong ties are severely tested and not just because of Zeke’s infidelity or their parents pending split.
The main storyline in this episode involves Adam organizing this big walk for autism. He’s got a lot of people in the community involved, there’s a big trophy that Max has his eye on if they win, and lots of money that they want to be donated to the autistic cause.
Max suggests that they use the shoes his father’s company has to track the miles walked. One of the particular pairs of shoes has a little sim card that will keep track of how many steps and miles you’ve walked. So Adam will also get a little good ole PR out of this deal.
Things are definitely heating up as Amber is simply walking around the track when Hattie and her three friends are coming off the soccer field. There’s a big-time confrontation in typical teenage girl style. There’s name-calling and the word slut is batted around. And then it boils over into a pushing match which ends up with the 2 cousins rolling around on the ground.
It’s not about winning awards nor is it MMA fight of the year but it was a decent catfight.
Haddie is still feeling the sting of the massive betrayal of how things went down with Steve and the advice Amber gave her to dump Steve. And for Amber to sleep with him just a short while later is very suspicious.
Adam and Christina as well as Amber’s mom Sarah are called into the principal’s office.
They’re expectedly apologetic and so the principal says no suspensions will be handed out.
Then the truth comes out much to the parents chagrin. Kristina seems to be way more upset than anyone else save for Hattie. Adam is attempting to be the peace negotiator and Sarah is keeping a fairly cool head as well.
There’s definitely going to be more to this story line going forward. Will the 2 cousins ever get back the closeness they had?
The truth also comes out in this episode about how Camille did sleep with her art professor one time. Zeke is noticeably crushed by this news but does take it fairly well. He still has designs on getting his wife back.
Julia the hardcharging lawyer has been signed up for this little so-called soup club. At the school whenever one of the parents has a great sickness or surgery the soup club leaps into action. They take some homemade soup over to whoever the recovering party is.
We know that Julia is no super cook so she ends up buying some soup. Her ruse probably would have worked except that one of the cups had the receipt in it which ended up in the soup.
She learns this parent simply had breast enhancement surgery. She is noticeably put out until they start to talk a little bit more. They find some common ground about the things they’re both dealing with. The stresses of parents splitting up and divorce as well as being back on the dating scene scare this woman Julia’s just met.
So she begins to empathize with her
Crosby and Jasmine are continuing to grow closer when he discovers she is auditioning for a dance troupe that’s going to be in New York. There’s a predictable confrontation even though Jasmine is being understated saying she’ll never get it. But Crosby suspects otherwise and you just know that she is going to get it forcing a move to New York. But will Crosby be going with her?
Finally, the episode draws to a close as Hattie sees her ex-boyfriend Steve and Amber kissing on the lawn at the high school. This is most distressing because Amber said everything was over between her and Steve.
Another blowup between the parents and students and it’s all leading up to the explosive season finale.

Parenthood is definitely heating up after last week’s revelation about Zeke cheating on Camille. Currently only the daughter Sarah knows about the infidelity but you just know that she’s not the type to keep secrets because the siblings are all close to one another.
Almost at the outset of the episode Sarah goes to Adam because she can’t keep the secret anymore. It’s one of those old secret wheels that gets the motor starting to run. She tells him she can’t hold the secret even though she promised her mom that she would. So now he must promise her that he is going to keep the secret. He of course does but you just know that he is going to tell his wife Chirstina and on it will go.
The only question now is how long it’s going to take before everyone knows and the secret is completely out.
Adam and Sarah feel very betrayed.
Since Zeke is staying with Adam he starts to lash out at his dad. Zeke doesn’t know why this new behavior is going down but he is chafing living under their roof with Max. He is watching one of his basketball games when SpongeBob automatically comes on from 7:00 to 7:30 PM.
They tell Zeke this is how it has to be so that Max will stay relatively calm and on schedule.
Since neither Crosby nor Julia know about the infidelity Julia is working overtime to extract her father from his bad real estate deal. She contacts her old high school boyfriend who is now in the financing and hedge fund game.
He rolls out this plan that he is going to package Zeke’s property with some other choice properties and get involved with a group who has access to Chinese money to buy the whole package. Zeke will only get $.40 on the dollar but it’s better than zero.
So plans are in motion to solve the financial problems but who knows whether the infidelity is going to be solved.
Crosby and Jasmine continue to draw closer though nothing has been said about moving in together.
The mother Camille is acting out in a vengeful kind of way. She started by kicking Zeke out and now she informs Sarah that she has to go up into the attic and grab any of the childhood stuff she wants to keep because anything left is going to be thrown out or burned.
Camille wants to have an art studio up in her attic.
Only Sarah and Adam know the true reasoning for why she’s doing this. Crosby and Julia are completely caught off guard.
Crosby wants this piano that he learned on when he was a young boy only it won’t fit in his houseboat. So he decides to go house hunting talking with his real estate agent about a 2 bedroom 1 Bath place.
There’s lots of crazy stuff going on and for the big finish Hatty invites Amber over for a slumber party. They end up having to seek out Max’s turtle because it’s lost. So Amber takes the opportunity to talk to Haddie.
She finally gets out that she had sex with Steve and Hattie is obviously distraught at this news. It was only a little while ago when Amber advised her to dump Steve. Now it seems like she gave that advice only so she could move in on Steve for herself.
That wasn’t how things went but that’s how Haddie sees it because she doesn’t have the whole story. She’s only feeling hurt and betrayed. This is blinding her to any other explanation.
Big times are ahead next week.
The episode opens with Crosby and Jasmine in bed together while Jabbar is knocking vigorously on the door. He’s calling out to his mommy for some reason that we don’t know.
Crosby jumps out the bedroom window to be on his way. As you can guess there are some old ladies walking down the street which see him and give him a dirty look.
Julia and her daughter Sydney are having some issues of their own. Sydney is on the loser team in the soccer league. The coach has just quit three days before the league season is about to begin. So Julia volunteers to coach.
Neither her husband nor her daughter are excited about this because of how competitive she is.
Things are also progressing with Hattie and her boyfriend Steve. Steve believes their on the path to having sex and she is not so sure. He invites her out to the golf course for a picnic but things do not go as planned.
Later they are talking in his car and Hattie breaks up with him because she’s just not feeling it.
The pressure he was putting on her and his inability to live in the moment doomed him.
Meanwhile Max is attempting to make some friends. He first goes over to some boy’s house and doesn’t like him so he fakes an illness to get out there. So his dad invites one of his work friends and their family over for dinner. But their are boy fakes an illness because Max is weird talking about his bugs.
Amber is a getting a job serving coffee at the golf course. Steve comes in heartbroken so Amber goes over to talk with him a little bit. They become closer as the episode progresses.
There’s this old person dance that’s going down where Steve comes by just to see Amber. You can see where this is headed and you know there’s going to be a confrontation between Hattie and Amber.
It’s really too bad because these two cousins have gotten pretty close.
But you just know this guy is going to come between them even though Hattie broke up with him.
And finally toward the ends the tough confrontation had to happen. Sarah discovers that her dad Zeke has sold his cufflinks to a pawn shop. She also finds out he has sold a lot of his other personal belongings to the pawnshop as well. So now all the kids know.
They decide to schedule a dinner over at mom and dad’s house so that they can tell mom.
The truth comes out and the mom is obviously extremely disappointed. But it’s not for the reason we think. She has a private conversation with Sarah and tells her they had financial problems before. She really doesn’t care about that she does care about the lies.
She reveals to Sarah that Zeke had cheated on her with a woman up north.
As the episode closes Zeke is on his oldest son Adam’s doorstep with a bag of clothes in his hand. We know that he’s been kicked out of the house and we’ll see where things progress.

This show just keeps getting better and better. It starts out with something I’m sure most parents can all identify with. The little girl Sydney is lying to her parents and Julia her mom is calling her on it. Sydney makes up a story about how the dog Skip next door came in and knocked over the vase.
Julia is quite surprised because she says Skippy is off on the farm. Apparently he had a little run in with a car and hasn’t been seen since.
So there’s basically no way he could knock over the vase.
But the stalemate continues because Sydney will not budge. She has dug in her heels and so Julia decides that the vase will not be cleaned up until whoever broke it admits to breaking it.
Crosby is getting in deeper with his pseudo-family. He’s becoming more of a dad and also feeling a strong pull toward Jabbar’s mom. He doesn’t know how to proceed because he’s doing things backwards. He goes to his brother for some help but I don’t know if he really got what he felt like he needed.
Big brother Adam is having problems of his own. He gets a package from Victoria’s Secret which he assumes his wife ordered but comes to find out it was his daughter Hattie. So he’s a dad dealing with his 15-year-old daughter’s coming sexuality. Also his wife Christine is looking to get back into the job force because she has an offer from an old political candidate friend that she worked with many years ago.
We don’t see the grandparents in this episode any at all.
Sarah and her kids are both having their own little crisis. Sarah tells her daughter Amber she has to come do a catering job with her at Cal University. She’s really been pushing Amber to start applying to colleges.
Amber has been steadfast in her desire to skip college. Also Sarah’s son Drew is having some problems with this girl that he likes. He’s in the awkward stage where he doesn’t know how to talk to girls nor does he have any dance moves. There’s a dance coming up and he really wants to ask this girl he’s had a crush on for a long time.
Crosby decides to arrange a date which Jabbar’s mom. He clears it with Julia to watch Jabbar for them overnight and ends up hooking up with the mom. It seems a bit awkward in the morning so we know that more awkwardness is ahead for these two.
Sydney finally breaks and admits to breaking the vase.
Drew gets shot down when he does ask the girl to dance to dance with him. Haddie and her dad have a big blowup. And at the end of the episode Amber brings down the college catalog and suggests that her mom apply.
I don’t know how many more episodes they are going to do because May sweeps are already here but I hope there is at least 20 episodes in this season.

Parenthood TV show is one of NBC’s rising new stars and I must admit that I have gotten hooked into this very gripping, engaging, and compelling show. And this has all happened even though I’m a young guy and don’t have a wife nor any kids of my own that I know of.
One of the big-time storylines on the show is the boy named Max who is about 10 years old and is suffering from Asperger’s syndrome.
This has brought to light for many Americans this high functioning version of autism.
This was an episode with lots of drama revealed when the sister Julia and her husband believed that their daughter Sydney also may have asperger’s syndrome. Julia goes to Christina who is the wife of her brother Adam for advice since they are the parents of Max.
Christina gives Julia the doctor that they use with Max so that he can evaluate little Sydney for them. The good doctor tests Sydney and finds her to be gifted and that she is probably bored in school which is what’s causing her misbehavior and her acting out which is disrupting class.
And the patriarch of the family named Zeke (who is played by coach Craig T. Nelson) reveals that he made a bad real estate investment. He took out a second mortgage on his main home to get into this property and now many of the properties around it are going into foreclosure. He also hints that he might be going into foreclosure on this property and as well it might affect his main house being taken away from him.
This is quite an unexpected and unwelcomed revelation to his number one oldest son Adam.
And there is other drama when Crosby another one of the sons has recently learned that he has a five-year-old son. His son Jabbar’s birthday is coming up and his mom’s family dislikes Crosby because they believe he abandoned Jabbar.
The birthday party isn’t going well but then the mother steps in to reveal that she did not tell Crosby about Jabbar and has been lying to them for the full five years. After this revelation the families then come together and have an outstanding birthday party. I guess it’s true that you can’t spell families without “lies”.
The episode left off with a couple of things dangling including when and how Zeke is going to tell his wife that they are in big-time financial trouble.
Also the rebellious daughter Amber who is the daughter of the other Braverman girl Sarah has made a great realization in her life. Sarah and her daughter Amber are becoming closer and we shall see how this plays out over the coming weeks.
