This episode of Cougar Town opens with Jules in one of her typically neurotic states. She is face-to-face with Grayson telling him that she wants Laurie and Travis to find out about their relationship in a perfect moment kind of way.
She had this all planned out in her head that they will just see the two of them kissing.
Since they are not looking she has to get their attention. He moves in to kiss her but she doesn’t like it because she says “not like you’re going off to war”. She wants just a gentle peck which doesn’t work. So to get their attention she tells him to cough which he does right in her face. That is not what she had in mind but it was quite funny.
Right about this moment Ellie and Andy come in and ask the big question “Do they know you’re hooking up yet?”
Now of course they look over which ruins the surprise perfect moment discovery Jules wanted which has her miffed.
As a little bit of a spoiler one thing I definitely liked about this episode is there was no cliffhanger. At the end you get the resolution you expected and based on the title of “finding out” you can guess that this episode is about all the friends learning the truth of Jules and Grayson.
Right at the start they believe their entire group of friends know. But then a startling realization hits them all at almost the same aha moment. Bobby is still in the dark.
So now you know Jules is going to come up with some sort of elaborate scheme or plan to tell him. But no one wants the duty of telling him.
In a somewhat democratic way they decide there are only 3 real people who should tell him. Andy is one because he’s his best friend, Jules is another because they are obviously still close, and Grayson is the third possibility because he is Bobby second best friend and also dating Jules.
They play a hilarious game where you have to throw a penny in a coffee can. You get to take 1 step closer to the can with each correct answer to a question about Bobby. Of course Andy wins going away. So now it’s just between Jules and Grayson to see who gets to deliver the bad news to Bobby.
Grayson has yet to answer a question correctly. Jules is on the cusp of victory when she totally chokes missing an absolute gimme shot. It’s the same as Tiger Woods missing a 1 foot putt.
Grayson launches a seemingly impossible shot from the starting line somehow making it. But earlier in the episode he said something regarding being in relationships that Jules is now going to use against him. Ellie turned this quote into a hilarious DJ slam mix. Jules replays his own words which guilts him into coming with her to tell Bobby.
Just as they’re about to tell Bobby, he starts talking about how relieved he is that the three of them are still single.
He is feeling like a third wheel everywhere he goes.
So right as Jules is ready to tell him she chickens out. Grayson is upset by this and they end up having a fight. He redeems himself because he comes up with a plan on how they should tell Bobby. And as we know the neurotic Jules loves plans.
So the episode wraps with them on the beach doing what Bobby loves hanging out as friends. Right near the end of the episode you just know that he is going to find out and you wonder how he will take it. This is definitely an episode you’ll want to watch.
The is the episode of Cougar Town where Travis graduates high school.
It opens in typical ironic fashion when Ellie is reading something on the Internet while Jules is talking about Travis’ graduation. Jules is talking and talking and Ellie just doesn’t seem to be paying attention. She informs Jules that if the conversation goes on for too long without involving her she zones out.
So Jules sucks her back in with a compliment about her hair.
Then she reveals to Jules a startling Internet research finding. A study has shown that moderate alcohol consumption keeps women thinner than those who don’t consume any alcohol at all.
This is very welcome news to the booze hound group.
The main word they forgot in all this excitement though is “moderate”. I’d hardly call what this group does moderate alcohol consumption but I’ll leave that for your own judgment. Either way it’s definitely funny to watch. I know your body wouldn’t find it funny if you attempted to copy what they do.
Travis is being very mellow about his high school graduation. We later find out it’s because he feels like he didn’t make his mark in high school. There’s only his regular photo and one other photo of him in his yearbook.
And it’s in an unflattering photo where he’s got his hands on his teachers man breasts. Travis says he was fake pushing the teacher into the bandsaw but that part got cropped out of the photo.
Bobby his dad is dealing with his own issues and feeling like he peaked in high school. He wants to do something special for Travis that’ll be cool, not embarrassing, and be something to remember and celebrate his graduation in style.
Ellie and Lori are having their typical fights. Laurie feel slighted because Jules threatened to murder Ellie if she didn’t go to the graduation. When Lori said she had to take a trip with Smith Jules didn’t even bat an eye.
Ellie and Lori have a coming to Jesus moment when Ellie breaks into her house in order to cut up her dress. She wants vengeance because Lori had cut up her new big hat that she loved so much yesterday.
But Lori won’t give her the satisfaction because she’s too depressed.
People act funny when they’re feelings are hurt. And they lash out in unusual and many times unexpected ways.
Anyway, Travis at the prodding of his mom decides to make his mark and apply to give the every man’s speech for his class. He goes for it and ends up winning it. When the time comes he goes on stage and notices the red balloon from the auto dealership which was awarding $2000.
He points to his dad to go get it but Jules has already told Bobby not to embarrass Travis today.
Travis has a hilariously short speech and urges his whole group to go get the red balloon.
Another funny episode for this clever and ironic show.

This episode finally brings to a head the tension that has been developing all season long between Grayson and Jules. They wake up the morning after and have the whole friends with benefits conversation.
Jules is against it because she says it never works. Since they are friends first they can’t do this without feelings developing. IT just simply never works.
A mere hours later she’s having a different conversation saying how it can work. They’ve been friends for a long time so they know how each other are. They know what they’re getting into so they can avoid the mistakes that others have made before them. They can be the one couple who is different from every other group that has tried this.
It sounds almost laughable but it’s amazing what the human mind can convince itself is true when it wants to believe something.
Andy wants to have more alone time with his wife so he hires a nanny. At first Ellie is all for it and thinks it’s a great idea until she starts getting ribbing from Lauren.
Lauren rides her like crazy because she doesn’t work, has only one kid, and now has a nanny. What does she do all day?
Ellie lets her pride get to her and ends up firing the nanny.
This creates a big and unexpected problem for Andy who goes to Lauren to rectify the situation. Lauren let’s a big secret loose that all these years the teasing she has received has hurt her but that Ellie is her hero. Not technically Ellie is her hero but the life and lifestyle that Ellie leads is what Lauren wants.
She sees Jules working like a dog every day and doesn’t want that for herself. She wants the family and the leisure life that Ellie has carved out for herself. So this convinces Ellie to get the nanny back so she and he can have their alone time together.
During this time Travis and his dad Bobby are off chasing this red balloon.
There’s this crazy contest going on where whichever person gets the red balloon will get $2000.
So they’re chasing this all around and it becomes very comical when they can’t get the balloon. Bobby suggest they sleep on a park bench and wear mustaches to resume the search in the morning.
It was all a clever cover up though. He told Travis that it was all so he could get his boat back into the water. However, what it really was is a way for him to make extra money so he could get Travis a car before he goes off to college.
Bobby had been feeling a little adequate because he hadn’t done all the things financially for Travis which Jules had. In some small way he wanted to make it up to Travis.
So he gets him this nice car even though it has a few bullet holes in it.
At the end of the episode Jules confronts Grayson and says she can’t do the friends with benefits anymore. He pulls out because he surprised and it isn’t what he signed up for.
But right before the episode closes he walks over to her and kiss her kiss to confirm that he is in for the full relationship.

I got into this show because it’s quite funny.
The overbearing mom Jules is having great difficulty letting her son Travis go. He’s a senior in high school and so college quickly approaches.
They suffer a great scare in the beginning because a rejection letter comes from his safety school. He’s only got two other choice schools that he’s applied for and they feel this is an ominous sign. Jules starts freaking out even though her ex-husband Bobby tells her to remain calm. That everything’s going to be okay.
In the morning time Jules is a little bit just angry because she feels like her friend Ellie left some wine in her glass. When she opens a high-priced bottled wine she expects it to all be drank up. The actual culprit turns out to be Ellie’s husband Andy. This guy is on the edge of being gay because he wears this lip balm that leaves a little residue like lipstick because he says it makes his eyes pop.
But he is married to Ellie and has a son so he’s got that working in his favor.
Travis tortures his mom a little bit because he does get into the other two colleges. One of the colleges is way out in California and one of the colleges is only 20 minutes away in Sarasota Florida.
Jules attempts to guilt him into going to the close one.
He is wise to the Jedi mind tricks and does not fall for her mind manipulation.
Another thing which makes this show so funny is the weird relationship between Jules and Travis. They are crazy close in a way that would make you uncomfortable but that is one of the things that’s so funny.
One of the manifestations of this weirdness is Jules watches her son sleep. Taking it even a step further she invites her two girlfriends over to also watch her son sleep. They play guessing games and other womanly talking games.
Also on this episode her friend Lauren makes a realization that she loves drama in her relationships. She is thinking about breaking up with her boyfriend because he’s not into drama. But then she decides to give it a chance because she’s never been in a good relationship.
Toward the end of the episode after Jules has dropped Travis off for his college visit she is feeling very lonely. Grayson is there to help her inside and they end up having sex.
They don’t want it to be weird in the morning so we’ll see what happens next week.
