This is a very interesting Chuck. In the last episode Shaw’s overwhelming desire for revenge was too much for him. He went after Sarah intending to kill her only Chuck stopped him. He put two shots into Shaw’s chest.

Shaw went over the edge and down into the river.

So now Chuck and Sarah are over in France and they are forced to make a decision as to whether they want to continue being spies.

The other person thinks they want to quit being spies and just go on the run.

While they’re on a train ignoring general Beckman’s calls Chuck flashes. And Sarah sees these guys carrying guns underneath their coats so she knows something is up as well. It turns out to be an international terrorist.

Chuck and Sarah get back to their rooms and neither of them know the other one noticed.

They have agreed they weren’t going to do any more spy stuff anymore. Having an international terrorist right there on the train for them is a sign and so they both decide to do one last mission. But we all know it won’t be the last mission.

Sarah’s been a spy her whole adult life and Chuck loves the action too much. They both love the drama and the adrenaline rush.

Unfortunately, they don’t have all the information for this operation.

They proceed thinking they’re going to take down the terrorists and drug the water so that the two associates he has with him get knocked out. These turn out to be Interpol agents. The terrorist has been working with Interpol because he was tired of being on the run and is giving critical information to catch other active members of the terrorist network.

Chuck and Sarah didn’t know this and so I put him in greater harm. He was on his way to witness protection.

Casey and Morgan end up finding out where they are. So they work with Gen. Beckmann to bring to more Interpol agents in to get the terrorist back into custody and towards witness protection.

The plan goes awry because there were dark forces on the train who are part of the terrorist group. They were here to find out as much information about what the traitor had told Interpol and then they were to eliminate him.

Casey and Morgan are still with the terrorist waiting on the Interpol agents to arrive. Two of them arrive and Morgan starts talking with them a little bit. He asks about certain landmark and one of the agents talks to him with information that is inconsistent about the landmarks so Morgan knows something is wrong. Casey also knows and draws his gun.

But there are too many of the evil terrorist cohorts to take down. It looks pretty grim and bleak for Morgan and John Casey. But Chuck and Sarah aren’t finished yet. They get taken in handcuffs by the two Interpol agents they drugged earlier.

They know something is up with Morgan and Casey being in danger so they break free and get on this moped. They drive the moped through the glass of the restaurant and get in a big huge fight with the terrorist group. With the help of Morgan and Casey they take down the group and get the terrorist informant back in the hands of Interpol.

They go back to Burbank and attempt to explain the situation to Gen. Beckmann.

She’s not buying the reason for their being AWOL. She does accept them back so the show goes on.

Right before the end of the last episode of Chuck, Shaw has taken the governor off Chuck because he is indeed the intersect also. So the truth has come out and Shaw’s plan has been revealed.

The whole team has been loaded on a truck in cuffs. Shaw tells them they’re all on their way to very dark cells for the rest of their lives.

We see a couple of cool flashbacks to when Chuck and Ellie were kids. We find out why Ellie is so protective of Chuck because she promised her father she’d looked after him. Also they see at the very end that Chuck had taken in the intersect as a child.

He’s now had the intersect in him three times so you’re starting to believe that this is in fact his destiny.

His father marvels at the young one because he is taken in so much information and it hasn’t killed him or messed him up. That’s when he tells Chuck “your special son”. He said that to Chuck right at the end of the last episode as he was taking his dying breath.

Pieces of the story are all starting to fall into place now. The jigsaw puzzle is beginning to come into focus.

Many more plot lines will be revealed in this episode. As I suspected Shaw has been dealt with but not killed. I’m sure he’ll resurrect himself and become a problem again in season 4. Also you get the first glimpse Chuck’s mom.

Since Ellie remained hidden neither Shaw nor Sullivan knew of her presence there. So she is now following the armored truck.

She calls Devon and Morgan imploring them to help get Chuck free.

Neither Morgan nor Devon has a plan.

Neither of them knows what to do. They open the glove box to find the gun but neither of them wants to use it. But there are couple of buttons that they start pushing. Morgan pushes one of the buttons which releases a rocket that explodes the armored truck. Shaw had been standing out the back with that smug evil villain look on his face. You just know that he has delayed too long taking pleasure in the moment when he should have just pulled the trigger and ended them.

But this is typical villain style to further the story.

The rocket blows Shaw clear of the wreckage and gives him a head wound.

The heroes get tossed around like sardines in a tin can. Even though they had some minor bumps and bruises they are no more worse for the wear.

Morgan and Devin come to their aid releasing them from their handcuffs. They hop in the car and speed away as Shaw empties his clip in an attempt to kill them. He is still on the loose and you know he will be causing more trouble.

They meet up with Ellie. She and Chuck drive away to have an emotional conversation. Promises are made because Ellie says she can’t protect Chuck from this. So he promises that once he gets Shaw and brings down the Ring he’s quitting the spy game forever. So at this point in the episode I was believing that he would possibly take Shaw down in an ambiguous way.

This would mean that Shaw is still out there believed dead. But I didn’t think the ring would be taken out.

They decide to go back and execute their plan. Chuck is back in contact with Gen. Beckmann who tells him there’s a huge government security conference taking place tonight. Only it’s not a security conference at all. Instead it’s a clandestine meeting of some of the top secret spy agencies in the world.

She also informs him that the top 5 Ring Elders will be there. This part has a very Lord of the Rings feel to it.

If they can capture these Ring Elders and also Shaw they will have brought down the Ring. It’s almost like the part in the movie Inglorious Bastards where all of the high Council of the Nazi party including Hitler himself is in 1 location.

You wonder if they’re going to blow them up like they did on that movie.

Their plan doesn’t go according to plan because Chuck is malfunctioning seriously as the intersect. He and Sarah go in disguise. Disguised Chuck goes up and talks to Shaw. Everything seems normal. But then Sullivan and another goon capture he and Sarah. Chuck’s Russian accent needs work.

They have executed this cool plan because Morgan and Casey have hacked into the network. There’s going to be a videoconference where Shaw reveals all of his treachery and betrayal. But this is also the time when John Casey discovers that Morgan has his daughter Alex’s phone number.

There are much hilarity and threats involved.

Morgan attempts to explain but Casey does not give him the opportunity.

Chuck calls Shaw’s cell phone which causes him to give the alert to the Ring Elders to leave the room. He has unwittingly identified them to Chuck’s crew. Casey and Sarah capture all 5 Ring Elders and so the Ring’s hold and power has been broken for ever.

Chuck is waiting in Shaw’s office for him. The inevitable one-on-one confrontation between the new evil super villain and the malfunctioning Chuck intersect is about to go down.

Things are definitely heating up and even though he’s malfunctioning they have a fairly decent fight. This is also where the videoconference happens with Shaw unwittingly giving up all the details about his treasonous behavior.

As Shaw’s about to kill Chuck Sarah bursts in and starts shooting. Shaw jumps out the window grabbing onto an American flag and swinging down on to the next level.

He has narrowly escaped a bullet death once again.

They believe they are triumphant and Gen. Beckmann has been released. She’s been restored to her old job.

Shaw comes into the Buy More or to exact his final vengeance. He Places C4 all over the store and has wired himself. He wants a final crack to kill Chuck and perhaps even Sarah if he can.

Morgan sees his plan and spoils it. Only he gets captured by Shaw in the process. He’s now a hostage.

So we get to see a bonus confrontation between Chuck and Shaw.

Sarah gets captured and is little help so it’s just the evil Shaw intersect vs. less than himself Chuck. Chuck can barely stand but it’s weakened him versus the fully operational Shaw who is wearing Chuck’s governor that his father gave him.

Chuck somehow does a reboot because he has a flashback of when he first got the intersect when he was a little boy.

He seems beaten-down and totally gone.

He surprises Shaw getting up and gaining the upper hand. He has a chance to kill Shaw again but doesn’t do it. Sara bashes him on the head with a metal pipe and he is lying on the floor unconscious.

As I said before he is not dead and you just know that Shaw will cause more problems in season 4.

He had captured Morgan handcuffing him to a chair. Morgan had to break his own thumbs in an attempt to trigger the fire alarm. He didn’t make it before Jeff pulls it because there’s a corporate coup going on with an attempt close to Buy More.

Morgan finds a detonator but since he doesn’t have his thumbs he drops it.

There’s a mad dash to get out of the store before it explodes.

The episode leaves us with Jeff and Lester as the main suspects for the arson on the Buy More.

Chuck has told Gen. Beckmann he resigns and she accepts because he got her job back and took down the multinational super powerful Ring. We still believe John Casey and Sarah are spies though.

And we also know there’s no way that Chuck can uphold his promise otherwise the show would be over.

They’re all about to have a nice celebratory dinner at Chuck’s house when John’s daughter Alex comes in. Morgan and her get a little bit close when John gets in Morgan’s face.

Chuck receives a cryptic message on his cell phone from an unknown number. It’s a strange text.

He goes in his room to his computer and receives a final message from his dad. It’s that old spy message that “if you are seeing this it means I couldn’t stop it because I’m dead” message.

Many new things are revealed to Chuck including his father’s location. He goes to his dad’s old house and finds a ton of research and work that he had been doing. He hasn’t been doing any spy work for any government agency. He’s been working for himself.

There are still many mysterious and nefarious forces at work out there. He now says that Chuck must complete his work and bring these guys down.

It’s also revealed that his mom is alive and now Chuck believes he must go to find her.

The cliffhanger has this call coming in to a woman whose face is away from us. We don’t know who’s going to play Chuck’s mom but we do know it’s Chuck’s mom because of the bracelet she is wearing. It’s one of the bracelets from a flashback. I’m looking forward to exciting episodes in season 4 even though I hate the long 3 to 4 month layoff we must endure.

In this episode of Chuck which precedes the season finale we find out that Shaw is not Justin Sullivan at all. The show’s creators pulled a fast one on us only showing his back as he was checking in on the ring computer so we were led to believe that Sullivan was Shaw.

But we never saw Sullivan’s face only the handprint confirming it was Daniel Shaw.

At the outset Chuck’s dad is working on the governor which is a device which will regulate the intersect. This governor will keep Chuck functioning and stop his brain deterioration the intersect is causing.

He’ll be able to be a normal superspy again.

But he’s hovering over his dad and so Sarah comes in to suggest he get a little fresh air.

They’ve been attempting to get a hold of Gen. Beckmann but she has been “indisposed” which has never happened before. They don’t know why Gen. Beckmann is off the grid.

As Chuck and Sarah are walking along a farmers market he starts to have a flash and the brain meltdown. He believes he sees Shaw.

He follows this apparition Shaw down into the subway. He looks into the glass on the subway train and sees Shaw wave at him.

We still don’t know at this point whether it is actually Shaw or a figment of Chuck’s imagination manifested through the intersect. To get confirmation he wants proof so they go back to the castle. Chuck’s dad pulls up the Subway video footage.

He do see Shaw and runs him through a facial recognition software to find where he exited.

Chuck’s dad tells Chuck he’s being lured in with a classic case of fishing. Shaw was the bait to lure Chuck into the Ring’s trap.

Chuck believes his dad but says he must go in anyway. He firmly believes Shaw is working for the ring and that this is a ring safe house. Unfortunately, things go terribly awry because this is an actual CIA facility. They’re having a clandestine meeting to determine the future if there is any more intersect. They’re thinking about disbanding the whole program because of its costs and the fact that it has performed below expectations.

Just then Chuck bursts in while having a fistfight with Shaw.

All of Gen. Beckmann’s best efforts are thwarted because of Chuck’s display.

They bring in the whole team for questioning when Shaw makes his triumphant reentry. He’s been a double agent investigating both the ring and the intersect project. But the Chiefs in charge don’t know that Shaw has actually turned. They believe he’s still on their side.

Chuck sees Shaw flash but no one believes him. He borrows a page from his dad’s book when he throws a letter opener at Shaw but Shaw does not catch it. It stabs him in the shoulder and they take take Chuck away believing that he is compromised. They think the intersect has damaged his brain.

A classic storyline where the hero is experiencing paranoia which everyone around him believes is just crazy. But we know the truth that this paranoia is actually real.

They take Chuck away.

Casey and Sarah have a meeting outside where Casey says they must pull out and live off the grid because they will be harassed to the ends of the earth. Casey says they’ll take away everything and everyone we ever cared about. Sarah cares only for Chuck so decides to stay.

Casey goes to visit his daughter but it doesn’t go as planned. He ends up having to beat down Sullivan and basically kidnap his daughter.

And then he takes her to a parking lot. While she is running away he reveals that he’s her father. She doesn’t totally believe him at first but then starts coming around to the truth. He tells her to run away as the CIA goons close in to take him away.

Chuck was in a holding cell but his dad decides to get involved and help him again.

He tells Chuck like he has so many times before that if he is going to protect those he loves he has to pull out right now. They have to go away and live off the grid for ever.

As he’s leaving though Morgan calls his cell phone to relay the news that everybody has been captured and Rome is burning.

He looks at his dad and says they are not the kind of men who can just leave the people they love.

They go back and with Ellie’s help infiltrate the secret ring base. They go to the spot where Ellie had been meeting with Sullivan and she reveals that he goes down into that subway door there.

Chuck and his dad go down below to see what lies beneath. They make their way into the ring base and now have the evidence they need to take Shaw down.

Unbeknownst to them though Chuck set off the silent alarm.

Shaw shows up and has them both cornered. Chuck challenges him to an “intersect on intersect battle royale” to see who is truly the best fighter. Shaw is intrigued by this possibility but pulls his gun and kills Chuck’s dad.

He knows Chuck is too emotional and the intersect doesn’t function when Chuck’s in too powerful an emotional state. His emotions were impeding his capabilities even before the brain deterioration. Now Chuck is helpless, so what will he do?

Ellie also sees her father die because she had seen Shaw and Sullivan go down the subway so decided to follow them.

She was hiding behind a pillar when she witnessed Shaw take out her father. What is she going to do now?

It looks really bad for our heroes because all of them are captured and there are none left to save the day. Even Gen. Beckmann has been taken into custody. It’s going to be an exciting season finale.

This episode of Chuck is the penultimate episode before the two-hour season finale next Monday night. We learn a devious secret at the end of the episode that Shaw is still alive and has assumed the identity of another man Justin Sullivan.

His look is complete with plastic surgery so he looks like a totally different man.

At the start of the episode we see Ellie communicating with her father through coded messages in the classified ads section of the newspaper. They do these coded messages back and forth until a meet up time and place are set. But you just know that her dad being a former spy and paranoid guy is going to throw  a surprise into the equation.

Around the same time Chuck is having an awkward wake up conversation with Sarah. He’s talking on the phone with Morgan about the fact he is having dreams about Shaw, who he killed.

Chuck suspects that Shaw is still alive.

So we have the backdrop for the episode that Chuck is lying to his girl. And Ellie is putting her father as well as herself in danger by trusting Justin Sullivan.

Morgan and Dr. awesome have very small roles in this episode. Basically, Casey intercepts a phone message from Ellie to Justin which sounds like she might be having an affair on Dr. awesome. He asks Morgan if that’s possible but Morgan doubts it. After questioning Dr. Awesome Morgan says there is no problem on his end so if it’s happening it must be on Ellie’s end.

Chuck, Casey, and Sarah believe Shaw is dead.

Before they report anything to Gen. Beckman they want to make sure they have some evidence for whichever way it is. So Casey starts to interrogate Sarah in the hopes that Chuck will flash on something. He does flash on Shaw’s Washington DC penthouse.

There is a TR 15 safe in there but they don’t know what’s in it.

They now have their marching orders though because they have to find out.

Chuck’s dad ends up showing up at the Buy More to say hi to him. Much to Chuck’s surprise there is an awkward conversation where Chuck lies to him about his involvement in the CIA. His dad suspects something is up.

He then surprises Ellie by changing the meeting place. He shows up in her house and he is cooking something on the stove.

Ellie is getting in ever deeper with Justin Sullivan. Before they begin eating she goes out to take a call from Justin and informs him that her father has changed the meeting place. He’s there at her house right now.

So Sullivan has to adapt and improvise which he is good at.

Chuck tells his dad he has to go check out a penthouse with Sarah that night. But then daddy definitely knows something is up and decides to follow them. Predictably Chuck gets in trouble when he does a rooftop leap and almost falls off.

His dad comes to his rescue with a very disappointed look on his face.

They have some reconciliation when his dad drops a bomb on him. I won’t give it away but it is something totally unexpected that really piques Chuck’s interest.

At the close of the episode we learn that Shaw is actually Justin Sullivan because he places his hand on this fingerprint scanner. It welcomes Daniel Shaw and starts giving him mission information which we can believe is from “The Ring”.

Next week’s two-hour season finale should be explosive and unfortunately will probably leave us with a cliffhanger. My money is on the fact there’ll be a big battle and possibly guns pointed at one another between Shaw and the team.

But I doubt there’ll be a resolution and Shaw will probably still be a problem going into season 4. That’s the other cool news I just read that NBC has picked up a full season 4 of Chuck. Bravo to NBC.

Ellie Bartowski

As you know Chuck is one of my favorite comedies currently in production. This episode starts out in a very foreboding way with Chuck having these crazy vivid weird dreams. He is sitting on the couch watching a movie with his now live-in girlfriend Sarah. He tells her he loves her but she does not say it back.

She is her normal guarded and reserved self who has never been in a relationship like this before. So she doesn’t know how to act or be in it.

Chuck’s feelings are little but hurt and he ends up nodding off during the movie. He has this crazy weird dream that Shaw, the guy he killed, has come back and is going to do something bad to him.

It seems like he’s losing his mind. He finds out they believe the intersect is overwhelming his mind.

He wakes up Gen. Beckman and the whole team in the middle of the night because of his dream that the Zamibian president is in danger of being assassinated at the Beethoven symphony which is coming up tomorrow. Obviously, the team questions the sanity of this Intel and the timing of when it’s being delivered.

The general recommends Chuck see a psychiatrist which leads to him being placed in a CIA psychiatric facility.

The doctor believes he is losing his mind because of the intersect.

Before he goes into the facility the last straw was him acting on his Intel. He and Morgan act alone to go to the symphony. Chuck has another dream believing that the scientist sitting next to the Zamibian president is going to assassinate him with a machete looking knife device.

Sarah and Casey come in to rescue the day but cannot do so. Chuck is on his way to the box and Sarah accompanies him.

He frisks the scientist in the most indignant way.

The scientist is not amused and then at that moment Chuck ends up flashing that there is a data chip located in the tooth of the scientist. He punches the scientist knocking out his tooth only to find out that it is the wrong tooth.

So he’s in the CIA nuthouse and the scientist and two of his goons come for him. The scientist wants to know where he’s getting his Intel so gives him a sort of truth serum that is also going to then kill him.

Casey has gone over to the doctor’s house to see if he can visit Chuck late in the hospital. Sarah also goes over the doctor’s house later and the three of them go to visit Chuck just in the nick of time.

They stop the doctor and his goons from harming Chuck.

As the episode closes Ellie has become embroiled in the situation as well. The doctor who drugged Dr. awesome with the malaria like symptoms is apparently working for the Ring.

He shows Ellie a badge and makes her believe that he’s working for the CIA.

He wants her to watch Casey for some reason.

We don’t know exactly what his motives are nor do we know for sure if he works for the Ring but we do know he’s up to something malicious. Looks like it’s going to be an exciting end to the season of Chuck.

This episode of Chuck starts out very strangely. We hear Morgan Grimes voice narrating about how his boss is Chuck Bartkowski who is a supersecret spy. The cool thing about the TV show is we also get the images of his dream.

He’s dreaming about Sarah in a hot outfit with Chuck in a super hot sports car. The two of them are driving alongside one another in a Fast and Furious, way. Morgan Grimes is bringing up the rear behind them in some little moped which can somehow keep up with the fast sportscars.

So why does he see himself in his own dreams driving a moped? Why is he dreaming about Chuck’s romance and dating life instead of his own? And how can his little moped keep up with these fast sports cars?

These are just a few of the questions that come to mind. Then all the sudden Morgan leaps out of bed awake.

He’s a little freaked out by his dream.

He wakes up to go to the refrigerator and starts talking as if it’s Chuck because the open fridge door. Sarah then closes the door with orange juice in her hand and starts talking to Morgan. He is quite surprised and doesn’t know what to say.

They fast forward to the morning and then Chuck has a conversation with Morgan about how Sarah’s got to be there quite a lot. Sarah comes in and Chuck has the “let’s move in together” conversation. Sarah hasn’t been in a normal healthy relationship so she initially shoots him down. But I suspect later in the episode she’ll reconsider.

This episode basically has two tracks it’s going to follow. Chuck and Sarah are going to be observing the CIA’s top power couple for the last 30 years. These guys have been a married couple all during their time as spies and have done many successful missions since the 1980s.

The second track will be Morgan’s evolution as he attempts to become a field ready and field trained agent. Much to John Casey’s chagrin he is the one who will be training Morgan Grimes.

There is also the side action of Ellie and Dr. awesome’s tour in the Congo doing Doctors without Borders. Ellie has an encounter with a poisonous snake who ends up getting a machete. She also starts to doubt herself because she’s not an outdoor person and even when she was camping in the backyard with Chuck when they were younger she would go inside. She set her alarm before Chuck would awaken and then crawled back into the tent so he was none the wiser.

At the end of the episode Dr. awesome gets dosed with something to look like malaria so that he and Ellie would have to leave. There’s this weird security guard who is behind in the dosing and we don’t know what group he’s working with nor what plan of action is going on in the background. Nor do we know why they’ve involved Ellie and awesome but we know it must be something to get to Chuck.

What I enjoyed the most in this episode is the evolution of Morgan and Casey.

Casey says a good agent has three things subversion, stealth, strength. The three s’s.

So first he says Morgan’s got to get this hot girl’s phone number. He says a good agent must be able to manipulate any target at any time. So Morgan goes over to get her phone number and instead she writes, “you disgust me.” So test one is failed.

Test two is stealth.

Casey says Morgan’s task is to steal something from the store. Big Mike happens to be asleep so he tells Morgan to steal his key card without him knowing. He gets the key card but awakens big Mike.

Test two is failed.

Test three is strength.

Casey takes Morgan down to the secret base under the yogurt shop next to the Buy More. He teaches him how to work with guns and weapons. Morgan has good knowledge because he’s played lots of first-person shooters. But when he first shoots the gun the kick causes him to be frightened.

Test three is failed.

Chuck and Sarah’s observation mission takes on quite a few twists and turns. The Turners are supposed to go into this party and get a software.

This German guy named.Otto Graham is a rich guy who’s hosting a party. But behind the scenes he has developed a software that can crack the CIA’s encryption. He’s looking to sell this to the highest bidder. This would mean that the CIA’s information would be an open book to any enemies.

Chuck and Sarah go in there with the Turners. The Turners start making a scene and the Bartkowski’s don’t know what’s going on.

The female Turner ends up falling down drunk while the male Turner is hitting on this young hottie. So the Bartkowski’s decide to take matters into their own hands and get the software themselves. They go upstairs to get it but there is a complication. Otto has a pet tiger.

Chuck flashes when he sees the Tiger’s collar and realizes the software is on the collar. Once the tiger falls asleep Chuck goes to get the collar but ends up waking the tiger. So he and Sarah have to run out of the room before the tiger can get them.

Much hijinks ensue but basically there’s a tracking device on the collar which leads Otto back to them. He brings his tiger along.

The Turners had attempted to steal the collar and sell it to the highest bidder because they’re looking to retire. Chuck and Sarah track them down and get back the collar. But then Otto meets all of them at Chuck’s house.

There is a shoot out and some craziness with the tiger but basically all’s well that ends well.

I definitely recommend you view this episode.
