Sliders “Sole Survivors” – Season 3 Episode 18

Sole survivors makes you think they’re going to land on a post-apocalyptic world in this episode and it did not disappoint in this regard. Overall I liked the episode and there are a number of reasons why.
The episode opens with a guy who is reading in a bus at night. He’s got some lowlight and what sounds like a generator in the background. Then his generator starts to fail and these crazy zombie looking creatures begin attacking the bus’ glass and end up eating him.
Then the Sliders vortex opens and they land on zombie world. Things are completely devastated. It looks like an absolute war zone with piles of trash, burning fires, and carnage everywhere. There are bodies and zombies that are decaying and laying on the ground.
The Sliders start to walk and one of the bodies comes alive and bites Quinn in the calf. They do a little recon and discover a human body that has a gold tooth in it. Rembrandt first thought it was wild dogs but then when Maggie pulled the gold tooth out of it they realize the horror that it was a human who did this attack.
So they find themselves in zombie world. It is a little bit different than Zombieland the movie that just came out with Woody Harrelson. Not quite as funny but pretty good.
They see some lights off in the distance and find that there is at least one other human left alive here. It is getting close to daybreak and the zombies are sensitive to light. It’s a good thing it’s getting close to sunrise because her generator is failing and needs to be fixed.
So presumably that is what they’re going to do with the day is fix the generator. She sees Quinn’s eyes and they tell her that he was bitten. She gets scared and informs them of what happened on this world. They decide they’re going to go to a hospital despite Deborah’s warnings.
So the race against Time is on. It’s daylight right now but the sunset is rapidly approaching. They go to the hospital and find exactly what Deborah said they would…which is nothing. It’s all carnage, everything is dead, and there are no doctors to be found.
But one was hiding out. He’s been using the manufacturer’s antidote which has some effect but is no cure.
But this gives the doctor renewed hope that there are still a few humans left alive. He believes that Maggie has a natural immunity in her blood and that he can isolate the antibody. But she tells him that isn’t so.
She starts to talk with the good doctor and after a little while realizes that Deborah has the antibody in her blood. Even though Quinn is pretty far gone from his bite he overhears and goes on a quest to get Deborah’s blood.
He gets her blood and brings it back to the doctor who isolates the antibody and creates the cure. They give the cure to Quinn and they have about an hour before the Sliders move on. The doctor also has an extra vial of the cure which is pretty good foreshadowing that someone else is going to get bit.
They go to meet up with Rembrandt and Wade who also have Deborah with them. But she gets captured by the zombies and taken underground.
In typical Sliders fashion they decide they have to go after her and help her because of what she’s done for them. In the process of freeing her from her zombie captors Wade gets bitten. She says to Quinn that they should stay on this world because they can’t take this infection to another world.
But Quinn gives her the good news that they’ve developed a cure from Deborah’s blood and the doctor’s work. So they give Wade the cure and they slide on to the next world.
Before jumping into the vortex Quinn offers to take Deborah and the doctor with them. But the doctor convinces her to stay because they are the last hope for this world.
