Sliders “Oh Brother Where Art Thou?” – Season 4 Episode 6

This episode finally reunites Quinn and the long-lost brother he never knew he had until the start of season four. A few weeks ago he had the revelation dropped on him that his mother was not his birth mother but a double. And then through the microchip information about his real family which his mother gave him he discovers that he had a brother who was placed on a different world.
The brother was placed with a different double of Quinn’s parents.
At the outset of this episode they are transported into a very pristine and natural world. Then they see this crazy guy on a hang glider gliding and who ends up in a tree. He comes down and this small horde of about 15 villagers with pitch forks and rakes and someone has a gun. They want to kill him.
They say he is doing the devil’s work.
The sheriff happens by and breaks up the mob.
The sheriff tells Colin, “Colin Mallory you better get out of here.” Even though the Sliders only have two hours on this world they were fortunate enough to be able to find Colin within the first five minutes. It’s amazing how TV shows work out this way.
Obviously, they had to reunite Quinn with his brother at some point so why not make it now. Otherwise the story could not move forward.
Anyway this is Amish world. They have virtually no technology and Collin is an inventor/scientist. He has all kinds of contraptions and gizmos with his flying hang glider being just the latest one. But since this is a backwards world they distrust his gadgets. He’s been playing with lightning and electricity Ben Franklin style as well.
Quinn attempts to convince him that they are brothers but he doesn’t believe him. Collin invites them to come back to his house and that’s when Quinn asks if he has anything from his parents. He brings out a couple of things including his father’s watch which Quinn proceeds to smash into little bits looking for the microchip.
He doesn’t find it there but only destroys Collins dad’s watch.
He asks if he has anything else and Collin shows him a little locket that was his mothers. There is a secret compartment when you open it up and that is where the microchip was. He lays Colin down, palces the microchip to his head and the truth is revealed.
Quinn says they only have a few moments and then they have to go to a different world. He invites Collin to go with them. Colin is hesitant because he loves a girl Susanna in this world. But they remind him that the mother hates him and the daughter Susanna is going to marry another guy.
So Collin agrees to go along for the ride with them. He is amazed on this new world as they come out of the vortex with an 18 wheeler bearing down upon them. He doesn’t know what it is so when the honking ensues he’s just standing there about to be run over when Quinn pulls him out of the way.
He finds many new adventures in this world. He sees the TV, cars, telephones, cell phones, and the big book of numbers which we know as the Yellow Pages. He also gets a new wardrobe at the end of the show to replace is Amish one and top hat.
In the meantime he and Quinn happen to be in the bar and Quinn goes to get some food. He sees his loves Susanna down at the end of the bar and does not yet know about doubles.
He goes over to talk to her and ends up leaving with her.
But she is not what she seems nor is she the girl he knew back on his home world.
She says her uncle Ray is stuck in an old folks home and she wants to care for him. But it turns out he’s in a cryogenic freeze waiting for a cure for the disease he had. Collins suspects something is wrong and ends up foiling her plan.
Basically, she’s a grave robber.
The Sliders end up finding Collin as he calls them on a cell phone and gives them an address he finds off a piece of mail on the desk. The cops also follow the Sliders and apprehend Susanna and her mom for attempted murder and robbery.
Collin shows his skills and becomes a valuable member of their team.
