Royal Pains “The Hankover” – Season 2 Episode 8

Aug 13, 2010

As you might expect this episode of Royal Pains involves a massive party and the accompanying next day hangovers.

So the writers did a fairly clever play on words there calling it the Hank over.

The episode starts out with Hank lying in a hammock with Dr. Emily Peck after what we can only believe was a night of extreme debauchery. Then it flashes back to 24 hours earlier and tells us the beginning of the story to fill in the gaps.

Over the past few weeks one of the enduring storylines has been the increased heat that is growing between Dr. Emily and Dr. Hank. Jill is still off in the wings in some sort of a limbo type of state but she and Hank are still very much a part of one another’s lives since HankMed is going to be running her free clinic because her hospital wants to sabotage the deal.

They were going to introduce a bunch of red tape and ask to borrow money from the clinic funds which would stall the beginning of Jill’s clinic until 2015.

Divvya and Raj have a wedding which is rapidly approaching. She goes to meet her mother for a ceremonial dinner before the wedding. Her sister Saya is there with a great secret to be revealed. Saya says she has to leave to go pick up her husband from the airport which is a lot.

Divvya breaks away under the guise of wanting to spend more time with her sister. She truly does want to spend more time with her then comes to find out the truth.

She and Jill are going to go have some fun and see some sights. But then Saya calls her in because her “associate” is having an allergic reaction to coconut. Divvya realizes that Saya does not have on her stockings anymore and the affair is revealed.

Saya tells Divvya that her husband Sanjay and herself have an understanding. It’s the way to make arranged marriages work.

Jill and Divvya continue on with their wild night in Manhattan. They have this crazy and connected taxi driver named Aristotle who they also discover has diabetes. So it was quite an eventful night.

Meanwhile back at the Boris mansion Hank and Evan are throwing a massive bachelor party for Divvya’s fiancée Raj. They do not know it but Boris told his assistant Dieter to supplement the guest list and so the party has grown to be massive. Boris is feeling great down in Cuba because of the work Hank has done with him. This is a show of his generosity.

The we see Hank’s hooking up with Dr. Emily as we saw at the start of the episode in a hammock.

In the interim he ends up getting some measure of vengeance on a guy who has a broken nose. The guy had bullied him when they were in junior high school.

Evan is still hanging around causing havoc at the bachelor party but has a minor role in this episode. Raj proves to be a very loving fiancée to Divvya.

They hired this super hot dancer girl, Destiny, who Evan thought had stolen his van. He was relieved to see Raj being a good guy, also being drunk and told her to take Evan’s van so she could drive back to her house. We don’t know if she was drunk or not. She didn’t seem to be having any drinks so it’s probably okay.

All in all a very entertaining episode of Royal Pains and there are only 4 more episodes left in the season. I can’t understand how a show so popular only has 12 episodes in this season. That is just such a low amount it doesn’t make sense.
