The Season 4 cast. From left to right: Rembran...

This is an exciting and interesting episode which delves deeper into the differences between the haves and the have-nots in this world. It definitely exposes and shines a magnifying glass on the stratification we have in our society between the rich and the poor.

The Sliders come into this world where Maggie and Collin are on the outside of this gclass. On the other side of the glass inside the building Quinn and Rembrandt are stuck. They attempt to communicate but it is soundproof glass. Quinn makes a hand signal they have 10 hours in this world and points that they are going to look for a way out.

As they’re walking a young boy comes up to the building with roses in his hands.

He is jumped by these thugs who are called scavengers. They want to get into the building and believe he has a way. He has a digital key which they need but will not use it to get them in, instead dropping it on the ground crushing it under his foot. The thugs get mad and attack.

Maggie and Collin leap out into his aid.

The scrum gets to be quite involved and then the alarm sounds. The scavengers start to run away as does Rick. Colin and Maggie chase after him and then laser start shooting near them. On this world the haves live inside and if the have-nots try to get inside they’re shot on sight.

The Sliders have this problem that some are on the inside and some are on the outside.

Quinn and Rembrandt are discovered by the guards and begin to be questioned. Then this young hot girl comes up and asks if Quinn is Rick. Quinn sees an opportunity so he affirms he’s Rick. So she tells the guards to back off because she was expecting him.

They get into the elevator and Quinn starts making out with her.

She starts to tell them a little bit about her world when an incoming e-mail from Rick arrives. She now gets very defensive wondering who these two guys are and why they have deceived her.

They tell her the story and somehow convince her to go outside.

She is scared but reluctantly agrees because she wants to meet Rick.

They set a meeting place and all are reunited. They go to the Chandler hotel because they can’t go back to Rick’s place nor can they go to Joanne’s parents place. The scavengers see them and pownce.

They take Joanne as their hostage because they want to get on the inside. They use a bazooka to blow the roof which brings down the whole place. Miraculously the Sliders only have minor injuries as does Rick.

So the Sliders cook up a plan to get back inside using the trash chuteas their entrance. They overtake the scavengers and their goons freeing JoAnne from her captivity. She and Rick become closer because of this emotional trauma they both experienced.

She agrees to go to Rick’s house and meet his mom. Things seem to be going pretty smoothly. The Sliders go outside and move on to the next adventure.

Overall, I liked this episode and definitely recommend watching it.

Two Kromaggs from the episode "Invasion&q...
    Image via Wikipedia

The mother and child episode throws a slight curve ball in that it involves a human mother and a humag baby. This is basically the product of a breeder camp where a Kromagg male has mated with a human female. And so the offspring is a hybrid baby of both.

When the Sliders come onto this world they are on the run because the Kromaggs have infrared detectors. They are looking to just hide out until the slide happens which is in under 45 minutes. All they have to do is lay low for that little bit of time and they’ll be on to the next world.

But as always there’s a complication when they attempt to just lay low and do-nothing.

Quinn and Maggie take the point and lookout positions. They see a woman coming up the road with some sort of backpack and she is alone. She comes over to them and they realize she has a baby. She tells them her story of her time in the breeding camp. It is a most interesting tale to the Sliders.

Quinn starts to tell her their names and she says that you are Quinn Mallory and you are Maggie. They’re both surprised that she knows their names and wonder how this is so. The girl Cristina proceeds to tell her that she knew Wade Wells.

The Sliders are relieved and overjoyed.

They ask her for more information about Wade and where she is. Rembrandt wants to stay and save Wade but Christina says she is already shipped off to a different dimension.

So they all agree to make the slide.

But the Kromaggs will not give up that easy. They have this breeder camp to train their new generation of warriors. So they are hot on Christina and her baby’s trail.

Cristina wants to go back to her home world but she doesn’t know the coordinates. Quinn suggests that they will be in the Kromaggs database. So they put up a clever ruse to overpower a Kromagg patrol to capture one of the Kromaggs and get him to enter into their database.

The commanders of the Kromaggs sees this and shuts down access but not before they get Christina’s home world coordinates.

So they slide into her home world where the Kromaggs have been driven out.

They come to find out from Christina’s dad that there was a terrible virus they developed which only attacks Kromaggs. So as you can guess it is attacking Christina’s baby and causing lots of devastation to it.

They finally get out of him that there is an antidote. To complicate matters the Kromagg father has disguised himself and come onto this world wearing a hazmat suit. He gets them into a top-secret CIA facility and gets the antidote.

They administer the antidote to the boy but then the Kromagg double crosses them.

They have no idea whether the antidote will work because it was only tested on humans and this baby has some Kromagg DNA in him. But the Kromagg father is convinced that it will work and has two more vials of the antidote that he’s taken. He says combined with the babies antibodies and this pure version of the antidote the Kromaggs should should be able to produce a vaccine.

And they will come back to this world and finish what they started.

Right before he is about to slide out of this world Christina’s dad starts walking towards him and he is forced to shoot him multiple times. As the Kromagg is occupied shooting the dad the Sliders overpower him and pull the breathing apparatus on his hazmat suit. The virus quickly takes hold and kills the Kromagg.

So they have saved this world from a further Kromagg invasion but Christina’s father is dead.

She decides there’s nothing left for on this world nor will they accept her baby so she’s going to slide with our Sliders. They agree to let her with the caveat that this next world will be hers. No matter what it is she will stay here because sliding is no life for a baby.

So the Lipschutz live episode. This is a forgettable show you could easily pass up.

In this episode the Sliders start out being separated. Quinn lands on a pile of garbage. Collin lands near some garbage in a separate part of the city. Rembrandt and Maggie are hanging from a window washing platform at the top of a high-rise building. Rembrandt is hanging on for dear life to the platform and Maggie is hanging onto Rembrandt.

This seems like a regular on the modern-day world.

But the Sliders are confused because they have never been separated before. At least not with the normal vortex. Rembrandt tells Maggie they were separated one time when lightning struck the vortex. But there was no such lightning which struck the vortex this time so no reason to be separated.

The other complicating factor is this is a short slide and they have to get out of there fast.

This is a world where everyone seems mesmerized by this TV showed Lipschutz live. They all watch it all the time. It is basically the only show on. Even the hotel workers are mesmerized by it to the detriment of their customers. They are rude and ignore the customers in many cases saying that they’re watching the show.

It’s basically a Jerry Springer type of show.

The Sliders rendezvous at the Chandler hotel where there is a big merger going on. In this world business mergers happen based on arranged marriages. And Collin’s double is set to marry this beautiful woman Roxanne.

Only there’s a mixup and the slider Colin gets put into the wedding.

He explains to Roxanne how it is and she doesn’t totally believe him. Eventually she does realize that he is quite different from her Collin but she likes him better. This creates an additional complication.

Maggie and Rembrandt see Collin’s double and think it is him. He runs out on the street and gets run over by an emergency vehicle. They take this Collin to the hospital and attempt to convince him to come with them. They are surprised that he acts like he doesn’t know them.

Rembrandt wonders if he has a concussion.

Anyway, they see Quinn on the Lipschutz live TV show and realize what he is doing. He’s making himself public so they can all find him. They tell Collin they have to get to Lipschutz live but he wants to leave the city. Rembrandt asks him how he can just leave all that money behind?

This is when the Collin double realizes he has to go back and set things right.

So they all end up at the TV station where Lipschutz live is going down. The slide is only under a minute away. Quinn opens the vortex right there on live TV as they slide out the world.

Collin’s double has a new appreciation for his woman Roxanne and they are very chummy. Also Lipschutz takes advantage of the situation and pumps for his next show.

Kyra, a Kromagg/human hybrid from the episode ...
    Image via Wikipedia

The Sliders come into this world that seems like a regular garden of eden. But right as they get their and Maggie is hoping they are there for a week or longer Collins says nope only 18 hours.

Then they see this guy in his 40s in full camo army gear running. All of a sudden an energy blast comes out of nowhere and hits him in the back knocking him down. He is dead. They see these two weird looking humans with ray guns. They have an exchange about killing this human, place a scanner to his wrist, and then they cut off his right hand.

They seem to find themselves on a safari.

It’s like something out of the movie Hard Target or the Game where humans are hunting other humans.

But it turns out to be a training ground for the elite guard of the Kromaggs. They have bred these humags which are a cross between a human and a Kromagg. It’s a result of a side effect of the weapon that was used on the Kromaggs.

On their home world the human scientists used a deadly weapon against the Kromaggs to defeat them. One of the side effects is that it caused Kromagg women to die 2 days after they give birth to their offspring. This was basically a death sentence for the Kromagg civilization.

What their scientists came up with was using human females in breeder colonies.

They capture the human females and then have them male Kromaggs breed with them.

THe offspring are in training to become elite Warriors. The training is a real-life test against humans who are brought to this fenced-in game area. The humans are given the latest human weapons so that the tests will be as real and live as it can be. The humag warriors are given the pulse weapons which are radioactive.

It emits a pulse blast almost like a laser. But it is highly radioactive so even if the blast doesn’t kill you the radiation poisoning soon will.

They go to do some recon in the Kromaggs base and Collin ends up getting captured attempting to save one of the humans who was brought to this world. They interrogate him and learn that he has friends but they still don’t know how he got there. He forms something of a bond with one of the humag warriors when he talks about his mother and she has no idea the concept of the word.

The rest of the Sliders gaining decide to capture a humag so they can get into the base.

They end up capturing this humag woman who Collin has formed a bond with.

But she has someone who cares about her in the humag ranks. He goes to interrogate Collin and is suckered. Collin traps him behind the force barrier cell and escapes. He goes back to the human base camp.

During the capture of the humag female Rembrandt gets hit with the blast weapon. The poisoning is taking its toll and he is in bad shape. The humag Kyra decides to use her Kromagg healing technique to bring Rembrandt back.

About that time Tyra’s mate comes in and starts killing the people.

She attempts to reason with him but he will not listen.

This is all going down right before the slide happens. Kyra attempts to reason with him and says that she cannot slide with the Sliders. But her reasoning falls on deaf ears and he ends up stabbing her, killing her. The other 3 sliders are already through the vortex.

Quinn leaps through right as he sees Kyra’s body fall to the ground lifeless.

    Adolf Hitler, head-and-shoulders portrait, fac...
    Image via Wikipedia

California Reich is the inevitable reference to Hitler. They come into a world where some crazy ethnic cleansing and racial things are going on.

The Sliders have dealt with oppression before on the world where Maggie got taken over by that alien like parasite. They slid into the next world where they had a mandatory organ donor plan for people between 18 and 25 years old. If an important American who was a genetic match required their organs then they were killed with their organs harvested and put into the important American.

Quinn just pushed it off as one of the customs of this world.

Rembrandt got upset because Quinn was so nonchalant about this tyrannical oppression.

This episode is where California is quite different than that oppression but the oppression is here is still very real. The Sliders come into this world and they see a minority being chased. It’s this Chinese or Asian looking guy who gets taken down by these 4 patrol officers. They stuff him in a van and leave.

The Sliders don’t know what is going on but they quickly find out. As they are walking down the street the van pulls up beside them and grabs Rembrandt. They take him away without any warning or explanation for why they’re doing it.

The Sliders are clearly upset but need more Intel before they can do anything.

So they go to their normal spot the Chandler Hotel. A pleasant enough woman greets them and tells them a little bit about this world. They also do some reading and find out that Gov. Schick is running for president and he is the one behind these oppressive policies.

They also see these workers which are called Eddie’s. They’re led to believe that these are synthetics built in a lab.

Rembrandt however knows it’s a different story. He is learning what he can from a guy who’s been on the inside of the migrant camps. They’re set to be deported very soon and Rembrandt is on the list for deportation.

The Sliders end up getting in a fight with the patrol officers in the hotel. The son of the woman who runs the hotel gets involved in the scrum and ends up hitting his mom in the head with a chair. She has a concussion and they take her to the hospital.

The problem is after taking her blood they do a DNA scan to find out she has him impure racial blood. So they are migrants and she is shipped off to the camp as well.

The Sliders convince her son to help them break into the condo so they can get back Rembrandt and his mom. What they discover is incredibly frightening. Migrants are not deported they are turned into the Eddie’s. Their faces are covered and they are made into mindless zombies. All they do is menial tasks. They’re nothing more than slave labor.

There’s a big gun battle and they end up getting out his mom and Rembrandt. At least they get out the shell of his mom.

They go on the run and expose Gov. Schick for his true policies. They show the boy’s mom on TV and how she was just a normal woman but now they have turned her into an Eddie. Fortunately, they weren’t able to complete the process but she is still mind numb.

The Sliders leave this world not knowing whether their message had its intended effect. Did Gov. Schick elected as president?

They don’t know but they slide off to the next world with the boy and his mom.

Fortunately, they slide into a hospital where the doctor seems to believe he can help her. So the boy and his mom stay behind on this world and the Sliders move on to their next adventure.

Right before the end of the last episode of Chuck, Shaw has taken the governor off Chuck because he is indeed the intersect also. So the truth has come out and Shaw’s plan has been revealed.

The whole team has been loaded on a truck in cuffs. Shaw tells them they’re all on their way to very dark cells for the rest of their lives.

We see a couple of cool flashbacks to when Chuck and Ellie were kids. We find out why Ellie is so protective of Chuck because she promised her father she’d looked after him. Also they see at the very end that Chuck had taken in the intersect as a child.

He’s now had the intersect in him three times so you’re starting to believe that this is in fact his destiny.

His father marvels at the young one because he is taken in so much information and it hasn’t killed him or messed him up. That’s when he tells Chuck “your special son”. He said that to Chuck right at the end of the last episode as he was taking his dying breath.

Pieces of the story are all starting to fall into place now. The jigsaw puzzle is beginning to come into focus.

Many more plot lines will be revealed in this episode. As I suspected Shaw has been dealt with but not killed. I’m sure he’ll resurrect himself and become a problem again in season 4. Also you get the first glimpse Chuck’s mom.

Since Ellie remained hidden neither Shaw nor Sullivan knew of her presence there. So she is now following the armored truck.

She calls Devon and Morgan imploring them to help get Chuck free.

Neither Morgan nor Devon has a plan.

Neither of them knows what to do. They open the glove box to find the gun but neither of them wants to use it. But there are couple of buttons that they start pushing. Morgan pushes one of the buttons which releases a rocket that explodes the armored truck. Shaw had been standing out the back with that smug evil villain look on his face. You just know that he has delayed too long taking pleasure in the moment when he should have just pulled the trigger and ended them.

But this is typical villain style to further the story.

The rocket blows Shaw clear of the wreckage and gives him a head wound.

The heroes get tossed around like sardines in a tin can. Even though they had some minor bumps and bruises they are no more worse for the wear.

Morgan and Devin come to their aid releasing them from their handcuffs. They hop in the car and speed away as Shaw empties his clip in an attempt to kill them. He is still on the loose and you know he will be causing more trouble.

They meet up with Ellie. She and Chuck drive away to have an emotional conversation. Promises are made because Ellie says she can’t protect Chuck from this. So he promises that once he gets Shaw and brings down the Ring he’s quitting the spy game forever. So at this point in the episode I was believing that he would possibly take Shaw down in an ambiguous way.

This would mean that Shaw is still out there believed dead. But I didn’t think the ring would be taken out.

They decide to go back and execute their plan. Chuck is back in contact with Gen. Beckmann who tells him there’s a huge government security conference taking place tonight. Only it’s not a security conference at all. Instead it’s a clandestine meeting of some of the top secret spy agencies in the world.

She also informs him that the top 5 Ring Elders will be there. This part has a very Lord of the Rings feel to it.

If they can capture these Ring Elders and also Shaw they will have brought down the Ring. It’s almost like the part in the movie Inglorious Bastards where all of the high Council of the Nazi party including Hitler himself is in 1 location.

You wonder if they’re going to blow them up like they did on that movie.

Their plan doesn’t go according to plan because Chuck is malfunctioning seriously as the intersect. He and Sarah go in disguise. Disguised Chuck goes up and talks to Shaw. Everything seems normal. But then Sullivan and another goon capture he and Sarah. Chuck’s Russian accent needs work.

They have executed this cool plan because Morgan and Casey have hacked into the network. There’s going to be a videoconference where Shaw reveals all of his treachery and betrayal. But this is also the time when John Casey discovers that Morgan has his daughter Alex’s phone number.

There are much hilarity and threats involved.

Morgan attempts to explain but Casey does not give him the opportunity.

Chuck calls Shaw’s cell phone which causes him to give the alert to the Ring Elders to leave the room. He has unwittingly identified them to Chuck’s crew. Casey and Sarah capture all 5 Ring Elders and so the Ring’s hold and power has been broken for ever.

Chuck is waiting in Shaw’s office for him. The inevitable one-on-one confrontation between the new evil super villain and the malfunctioning Chuck intersect is about to go down.

Things are definitely heating up and even though he’s malfunctioning they have a fairly decent fight. This is also where the videoconference happens with Shaw unwittingly giving up all the details about his treasonous behavior.

As Shaw’s about to kill Chuck Sarah bursts in and starts shooting. Shaw jumps out the window grabbing onto an American flag and swinging down on to the next level.

He has narrowly escaped a bullet death once again.

They believe they are triumphant and Gen. Beckmann has been released. She’s been restored to her old job.

Shaw comes into the Buy More or to exact his final vengeance. He Places C4 all over the store and has wired himself. He wants a final crack to kill Chuck and perhaps even Sarah if he can.

Morgan sees his plan and spoils it. Only he gets captured by Shaw in the process. He’s now a hostage.

So we get to see a bonus confrontation between Chuck and Shaw.

Sarah gets captured and is little help so it’s just the evil Shaw intersect vs. less than himself Chuck. Chuck can barely stand but it’s weakened him versus the fully operational Shaw who is wearing Chuck’s governor that his father gave him.

Chuck somehow does a reboot because he has a flashback of when he first got the intersect when he was a little boy.

He seems beaten-down and totally gone.

He surprises Shaw getting up and gaining the upper hand. He has a chance to kill Shaw again but doesn’t do it. Sara bashes him on the head with a metal pipe and he is lying on the floor unconscious.

As I said before he is not dead and you just know that Shaw will cause more problems in season 4.

He had captured Morgan handcuffing him to a chair. Morgan had to break his own thumbs in an attempt to trigger the fire alarm. He didn’t make it before Jeff pulls it because there’s a corporate coup going on with an attempt close to Buy More.

Morgan finds a detonator but since he doesn’t have his thumbs he drops it.

There’s a mad dash to get out of the store before it explodes.

The episode leaves us with Jeff and Lester as the main suspects for the arson on the Buy More.

Chuck has told Gen. Beckmann he resigns and she accepts because he got her job back and took down the multinational super powerful Ring. We still believe John Casey and Sarah are spies though.

And we also know there’s no way that Chuck can uphold his promise otherwise the show would be over.

They’re all about to have a nice celebratory dinner at Chuck’s house when John’s daughter Alex comes in. Morgan and her get a little bit close when John gets in Morgan’s face.

Chuck receives a cryptic message on his cell phone from an unknown number. It’s a strange text.

He goes in his room to his computer and receives a final message from his dad. It’s that old spy message that “if you are seeing this it means I couldn’t stop it because I’m dead” message.

Many new things are revealed to Chuck including his father’s location. He goes to his dad’s old house and finds a ton of research and work that he had been doing. He hasn’t been doing any spy work for any government agency. He’s been working for himself.

There are still many mysterious and nefarious forces at work out there. He now says that Chuck must complete his work and bring these guys down.

It’s also revealed that his mom is alive and now Chuck believes he must go to find her.

The cliffhanger has this call coming in to a woman whose face is away from us. We don’t know who’s going to play Chuck’s mom but we do know it’s Chuck’s mom because of the bracelet she is wearing. It’s one of the bracelets from a flashback. I’m looking forward to exciting episodes in season 4 even though I hate the long 3 to 4 month layoff we must endure.
