Sliders “The Great Work” – Season 5 Episode 4

The Sliders end up landing on the beach which has happened a few times during the show. Once again they are disoriented and the bigger problem is that Maggie is running a fever and the cold is getting to her. Perhaps the extreme changes in climate are starting to take its toll.

The island seems barren but then off in the distance they see what looks to be a Spanish pueblo style of building. It looks like a house only bigger.

Since there is nothing else around obviously they decide they must go to this place. They knock on the door but there is no one to answer.

Finally this guy dressed as a monk comes up from a different entrance and invites them in.

They have a doctor on staff who starts to care for Maggie. He doesn’t do a whole lot except for recommend bed rest. He mixes up some little potion out of these herbs and stuff but we are not really sure exactly how effective this elixir to be.

Meanwhile the head of this sanctuary is called keeper Abraham. He is highly suspicious of the four newcomers because he thinks they may be spies sent by his enemies.

On this world there was a great war that ended up knocking out the major government powers. So there’s now no central government anymore. The Volsned raiders is the opportunistic group who has taken advantage of this power void and basically conquered the whole earth.

They’re now just mopping up pockets of resistance which remain because the Volsengs are very thorough.

You just get the feeling that even though this island has been previously untouched before the Sliders leave there will be a confrontation battle as the Raiders finally come for this place.

Sliders suspect there is more going on and Diana hears this noise like some sort of electromagnetic machine.

They are normally under locked bed rest at night but Rembrandt and Mallory form this alliance with the son of the head keeper Abraham. He agrees to help them in exchange for a favor. So he busts them out at night and they go to retrieve Diana. They still don’t know about Maggie.

The son leads them into this room and tells Rembrandt not close the door. But he has already done so and it is actually an elevator down to the electromagnetic machine. What they are doing in this world is chronicling all the knowledge they had for the major governments and the society fell.

The Volseng raiders come and there is the obligatory confrontation. Maggie finds her way to her comrades. The good doctor is actually in league with the Volseng raiders and sold out his own people.

The Raiders want the great work.

Through the help of Diana the great work has been condensed onto 1 crystal. They entrust it with the keeper Abraham’s son and his girl. They leave via a secret entrance with the great work. Maggie destroys the books and the physical information that is around.

The Volsengs take the good doctor hostage. As they are about to take the Sliders Rembrandt opens the vortex and they high tail it out of there.
