Seal of the City of San Francisco for fair use...

This episode was much more balanced but did have a focus on Wade. The Sliders land on this world where they do what they call the lottery. The world seems to be too good to be true.

The prices for certain goods and food is absolutely astounding. You can get 12 apples for only $.35. But the Sliders soon find out that when something seems too good to be true then it definitely is.

San Francisco seems very scenic and they learn some startling information from certain pamphlets that are published on this world.

There are only 500 million people on the world total which is about 10% of the population of the world and the episode was made in 1995. Of courses the population is now closer to 7 billion but still 5 billion people is a lot of people.

They come to find out that the way this world is doing it is through population control.

Certain people on this world play the lottery. The winners get killed. But before they do they get all kinds of perks and they basically get whatever they want for between one and two days before they have to drink this poison vial. It’s almost like a poison vial that you would see in the story Romeo and Juliet.

Rembrandt meets a beautiful woman whom he falls in love with but she is a lottery winner. Wade has also won the lottery and she played it before they found out what the lottery actually means.

So of course she wants to opt out and keep on living as you would expect. She is scheduled to check out and be killed right around the time they are so close to Sliding.

So this creates a conflict of time where she might be dead before the timer runs out and they actually get to slide.

They make a daring escape toward the end of the episode but a guard gets off a final single pistol shot. This happened right as Quinn is entering the vortex and you assume that he has been hit. When they land on the New World, with one extra passenger named Ryan who was a lottery winner but decided to go with them, they find out the bad news.

Quinn faints and when they rush to his side to see what is wrong with him Wade has her hand on his back and she feels something weird. She slowly pulls out from behind his back and in view of the camera and we see a bloodstained soaked hand that she is holding.

But Quinn is the main character so he can’t possibly die can he?

Leave your comments below because this episode was definitely worth watching with lots of good action.

Sliders is a sci-fi show that came out in the 1990s and gave Jerry O’Connell his star. This is the show he rode into his movie career. He has now appeared in numerous other movies since the show became big.

I first saw the first few episodes when they came out but back then was the dark ages of TV. There was no archiving of every episode on the Internet so that they were easy to find. If you didn’t see the commericals and didn’t have the newspaper then there was no way of knowing when the show is coming on or what channel.

Basically, in this pilot episode it is 2 episodes in one. It is roughly an hour and a half long and it follows the story of our hero Jerry O’Connell who is a young college student and a brilliant physicist.

He is working hard on some very extreme and complicated physics theories. He is wanting to develop antigravity technology.

But like most things scientific he makes a side discovery that is even more exciting and unrelated to the antigravity. He discovers that antigravity probably doesn’t exist.

But what he finds is something so much more exciting and it is a bridge to other worlds. Now not so much other worlds but it is basically a doorway or portal that you can go through to enter into parallel realities.

So he stays on Earth he just has a tunnel in to all of these infinite possibilities of other realities where he could be. He goes on one trip and returns and then wants to tell his friends and his favorite professor about it.

What ends up happening is he invites his professor and his friend Wade into his adventure. He sees his own double who has already slid 8 different times to 8 different worlds and gives him a warning that he does not quite hear. But he suspects the warning has something to do with not moving up the timer.

Quinn Mallory is our hero played by Jerry O’Connell, and he invites his professor and his friend Wade to go with him but he is only certain of what travle takes by himself. So he doesn’t know how much more power will be needed and ends up cranking the power to high. This sucks in Rembrandt Brown an innocent bystander who is now part of their quest.

They land on this ice world and as you can guess he has to ignore the warning because an ice tornado is threatening their lives. So he cranks the timer up and messes with it sliding into a different world. Only now they are sliding randomly.

The next world they go to ends up being a communist world and America has been taken over by the Russians. Apparently America lost the Korean War in this reality and then the dominoes continued to fall as communism spread. The United States was isolated and their technology shrank and they were eventually defeated.

The Sliders somehow help out and bolster the resistance with a daring raid based on lucky fortune that the professor happened to be an important person in this reality.

I won’t give it away but basically our sliders end up making it back home. Or at least they think they did. Stay tuned.

This is the episode where Rembrandt Brown takes the center stage. It was oddly reminiscent of the Elvis situation that played out in the late 70s.

Rembrandt Brown was a huge musical star and his fans absolutely adored him. He achieved levels of godlike status with female fans actually worshiping him and statues or likenesses of him. It was quite incredible and his fans were incredibly crazed.

But it is the type of mania we have seen with big-time stars a lot like lady Gaga today.

But what’s funny is during the show as the Rembrandt character on the world they slid into achieved the height of his fame and musical success he chucks it all and fakes his own death. He simply didn’t want to live the life of fame anymore. The price of fame was not providing him enough value for staying in the limelight anymore.

He had to deal with crazy fans all the time and he just got tired of it wanting a quiet life of fishing.

But when the Sliders come in Rembrandt Brown is spotted and videotaped and so it starts the craze up all over again. And of course the Rembrandt from this world sees the news and gets upset wondering what is going on.

The news is in a frenzy and all his fans say that they knew he was alive all that time for these past eight years since he’s been disappeared. He faked his death by sinking a ship claiming that his body was out at sea and he drowned. Of course his body was never found.

So the mystery remains, like the mystery with Elvis and a lot of his fans saying that he’s still alive. Of course Elvis was quite old in the late 70s and that was 30 years ago so even if he didn’t die when they initially said he did there is no doubt that old age has taken him well before now.

I was never a big Elvis fan but my stepdad was so he would probably like this episode a lot more than I did. There wasn’t a whole lot of action nor any cool special effects. It’s basically a case study on what it’s like to be a famous rock star.

I guess when you’re going to feature one of the main characters in every show it was Rembrandt’s turn and he was a musical star. That was apparently his destiny on his home world and on every world to come.

So it’s no surprise they happened upon a world where he had actually hit the mother lode of big-time fame and success.

If you like music you should definitely check out this episode but otherwise I say skip it.

    The original Sliders.

Eggheads seems like an absolutely appropriate title for an episode of sliders since it is based on our main character Quinn Mallory who is an absolute physics genius. And he is also paired up with a recognized expert and published author in the physics field, professor up Arturo.

This episode is quite weird because they slide into this reality and one little kid recognizes Quinn Mallory. At that point the Sliders then see Quinn’s face on a billboard. The kid also recognizes Prof. Arturo.

Of course, our Sliders are a little bit dumbfounded as to why they are being recognized but then it becomes clear when they see a digital sign saying that library hours have been extended due to demand. In this world intelligence and academia are celebrated like we celebrate movie stars and professional athletes here in America.

So it was quite an in-depth look at the different cultural values and placing value on a different skill set.

The actual game that allowed him to recognize Quinn as a superstar was called eggheads. Quinn had even been on a box of Wheaties as “the breakfast of geniuses”.

As with any episode of sliders there’s definitely more than meets the eye. Arturo and Quinn decide to assume the identities of their doubles in the hopes of finding the sliding technology because they were told at the outset that the Quinn and Arturo on that world had disappeared because they had slid out of there.

So by assuming the identities they hope to find his basement or his lab with the sliding technology. At that point they could adjust the timer and hopefully get back home. Quinn says, “It gives us our best chance to get back home”.

As the episode wears on Arturo’s life is not what he thought it was going to be. He finds out he is married to the love of his life who died very early on in their relationship on his world. So he feels like he has another chance with the love of his life.

But his double has been cheating on her and she is suing for divorce. He attempts to reason with the current Arturo not to throw his life away and come to his senses.

Meanwhile the Quinn on this world has his own problems in the form of $1 million owed in back gambling debts to a mobster type.

Rembrandt and Wade are there on this episode but don’t have a major part in it.

I liked the episode a lot but there wasn’t a whole lot exciting in it. If you’re big on drama and romance and adventure then you should probably skip this episode.

Philadelphia - Old City: Second Bank Portrait ...

The Sliders episode was one that I found particularly intriguing because it explored what would have happened had the American Revolution failed. America is the British colony of America in this story.

Prof. Arturo on this world is the share which basically means he is the head governor of the entire west coast of America. Unfortunately the power has gone to his head and corrupted him.

He is plotting the death of Harold the third with the arrow to the throw.

The beauty for Arturo is that once Harold has been assassinated he is the last in his line. That means Arturo would be next in the line of succession and so it’s clear why he is taking this risky course of action. He’s next in line and the ultimate power is worth the risk.

But unfortunately the service plans are foiled when our sliders happen upon this scheme. Prof. Arturo is mistaken for the sheriff and he finds out about the assassination scheme.

    He foils the assassination plot.

They get captured by this group of writers which is a revolutionary group. But it turns out these are actually the good guys.

During the Prince’s captivity he comes to see exactly what is going on. He starts to fall in love with Wade and she leads him on tie. So he takes his leave of the place and goes out among the common people to see what is really going on.

And what he finds us balance him. it’s a bit like said heart to go to when he left the palace and saw all the suffering of his people who were so poor.

PCs it’s a cruel and brutal world out there and he no longer wants to be a part of perpetrating it. He never knew just how corrupt the sheriff was and how hellish he was making life for his subjects that he governed. Prince has been blind and in the dark about this.

This captivity opens his eyes and enlightened him to the truth. He decides he wants to be a different man and make changes.

So he teams up with the sliders and listens to them when they start talking to him about how to reshape the world. Quinn has been captured as a revolutionary by the sheriff put the Prof. Arturo has a plan.

Stand up storming a TV station and having Prince Harold go on live TV to rebuke and the rest of the share.

All’s well that ends well as Quinn is free and they are able to slide out in time. The Prince does make a final play for Wade and asks her to stay and be his queen.sheet she seriously considers it but at the end of the day decides to slide on.

    And so the adventure continues.

Sliders the free love movement. Oh free love what a bunch of wonderful days.

Of course, I can only imagine because I was not alive during the free love movement during the 60s. Didn’t get to see Woodstock and have only heard about it from my parents.

But this episode of Sliders was a startling and very illuminating glimpse into what the free love movement was all about and what the hippies were doing back in the 60s. Our gang of sliders find themselves on a world where they slide right into a commune with a bunch of hippies.

Of course beforehand when the episode first opens they have slid onto a world that seems to be deserted. Then they hear this announcement over the loudspeakers that “the swarm is coming and is only 10 minutes away.” Prof. Arturo immediately says “Swarm what swarm?”

Whatever swarm it is they know it must be a terrible bad thing. Then they hear on the news show that it’s a hybrid wasp and spider mix that is extremely deadly and that can chew through walls and will eat anything in its path. They say if you’re still in the city and haven’t evacuated your crazy because even being inside buildings won’t help you with them being able to chew through walls.

So even though the sliding timer is on its last legs Quinn is forced to open the portal right then and there even though they were supposed to stay on this world for a few hours. But as Rembrandt says “Anywhere is better than here right now.”

So that’s when they slide into the commune at least Rembrandt and Wade do. The people who find them think they are gods from heaven.

Since the timer was so badly damaged the portal closed before Quinn and Prof. Arturo could get in. But Quinn was able to reopen it just in the nick of time as the spider wasps were bearing down. But as a consequence a few of the spider wasps went into the portal with him and he and Prof. Arturo were dumped in a different place.

Rembrandt and Wade feel that they are stuck on this world and will never find Quinn and Arturo. Of course Quinn and Arturo are thinking the same thing and are only figuring out a way to fix the timer so that they can slide on.

As Quinn points out if you don’t all slide through the same tunnel and since there aren’t infinite number of worlds there is no possible way of sliding back into the same world.

Rembrandt goes exploring and discovers that he has a wife and son. But things are not as they seem once he digs a little bit deeper. He ends up running out of the house with his this reality wife firing a shotgun at him.

The Prof. and Quinn end up being chased by FBI people who think they are subversives. And of course Wade is living it up on the commune.

Quinn just happens to by chance see Rembrandt and ends up chasing him down. He and the professor reunite with Rembrandt.

He drives them over to the commune and the 4 sliders are reunited once again. But the FBI is still hot on their trail and they are forced to slide out right before the FBI takes them captive.

I’ve summed up this episode pretty well and it was fairly exciting but I have to say if you don’t really love the show then you can pass on this episode because there are definitely other episodes more worth watching than this.
