This episode was quite funny and found our reluctant antihero Russell (who is played by David spade) extolling the virtues of what it means to be his assistant and how much his assistants have learned. He cites his most recent ex-assistant who is achieving great things in the video game creation world and has made lots of money.

His current assistant Tammy just doesn’t believe him.

Russell is quite possibly the world’s most horrible boss. Not only does he force his assistants to do very demeaning things and even break up with his one night stands he also goes further. He does a lot of emotional warfare and humiliation on his assistants. And he has them do menial tasks.

As an example one time he had Timmy stand out in a two-day line overnight and provided him with only a cup to go to the bathroom in. He had him waiting in line for the latest new smartphone even though Russell didn’t even really want the smart phone.

He’s an emotionally stunted guy but somehow he does get lots of hot younger women.

In the rest of this episode Jeff and Audrey are the older married couple who seem to be about 10 years older than their other couple friends. Jeff is way down in the dumps because Audrey normally has a girls night on Tuesday but her girls group has broken up and many of them have moved away. He loved it because he got a free night all to himself that he didn’t have to ask for. This meant that he didn’t owe Audrey anything for her granting him a free night.

He goes to great lengths to see that she gets a new girls night but his plan does end up backfiring. This is definitely a funny show and deserves more viewership.

Old working cowboy spurs made by Crockett. Wes...
    Image via Wikipedia

This was what things would have looked like had the old West rules not gone by the wayside and were still interact in the modern world. It shows how the old West would have meshed with current modern business.

The Sliders find themselves in what they first think is the old West. But then they look at it and it has some of the elements of modern-day San Francisco. But it’s quite different because it’s San Francisco Texas.

After doing some reading and investigating they find out that Texas was the dominant force. While the Yankees and rebels were fighting it out in the Civil War Texas expanded westward and gobbled up all the land. So there was no California Oregon or Washington.

And the Texas style of doing business with gunslinging and putting people down was the way of the world.

Lawyers were basically hired gunslingers. And that is in the truest sense of the word because they would do an old West style duel to see who could draw the fastest and kill the other person first.

This was what they called negotiating and it cut right through the red tape literally.

But the Sliders don’t know what is yet going on in this world. Quinn sticks his nose in the dispute between two lawyers unknowingly. He gets off a lucky shot killing the top and fastest gunslinger around. Of course, this impresses the locals.

But it also gets him in far deeper than he ever wanted to be nor imagined he would be. The big corporate raider in town is named Jack Bullock and the fastest gunslinger was his lawyer. So now he wants Quinn on his team.

Of course he doesn’t know anything about Quinn or how inept he is with a gun in his hand.

The episode has many twists and turns as West and modern business overlap in a unique way. They play poker with blue-chip stocks and have a stock ticker over the poker table. It’s quite inventive.

They get involved with this single mom and a little boy who have a small computer company that Jack Bullock is going to take over. They find there are far more insidious things going on beneath the surface and that Jack had killed her husband.

She is on her last financial legs.

Her poker player has been killed by Jack Bullock and she asks Rembrandt to sit in for him. Rembrandt ends up winning lots of hands and putting her on a little more solid financial footing. One of the players he beats says “Call the Bank of Texas and tell them I’m under capitalized”.

Classic big business talk intertwined with old west. Jack Bullock is taken down by the sheriff for his murders.

Quinn gives a big political and cultural style speech about how wrong their way of life is and how much better they can do by going his way. And it’s at this moment that they slide out of this world and into the next one.

Lots of action and an episode you should view.

It’s been a very good start to season 2 and the string of good episodes continues with this one. Lots of action right from the very start.

The Sliders find themselves on a rainy world that is just having a torrential downpour. Rembrandt says it’s 40 days and 40 nights of God’s vengeance. But they’re only there for a few moments and then they pass into the vortex because it’s time for the next slide.

As the first three go through Quinn is the last one in and as he jumps through lightning strikes the vortex a moment after he jumped in. This causes a displacement and a disruption in the vortex. There are two main side effects and both are very dire to our Sliders.

First Arturo, Rembrandt, and Wade find themselves on the other side but when Arturo looks at the timer it has been completely fried by the electrical blast. They all notice something and Rembrandt just thought it was one of them kicking him in the backside.

But then they start looking around and realize Quinn isn’t with them.

They call out to him in vain and he calls out to them also in vain. He asks them why they can’t see him or hear him. Then he walks right through Wade and realizes that he is on a different plane and that the lightning has disrupted his slide.

The world they’ve landed on is even worse because it is anti-technology.

The professor almost gets arrested for having a digital watch.

But Quinn helps him out and gets him out of trouble because he stirs up a horse who can see him. He finds this one girl Gillian who people think is crazy and she is the only one who can see him. She has some sort of extra sensory perception to see on other planes.

So he enlists her help even though she is an extremely reluctant heroine.

She simply wants to be left alone because people make fun of her all the time.

They meet a sympathetic Mr. Mallory who is Quinn’s father only his Quinn on this world has been dead for some time. He has been dealing in technology and spent five years in prison for it. But he shows them some of the technology he has and invites them to use whatever they can. But fixing the timer will not be easy.

Finally through the help of Gillian who is the only one who can see the ghostly Quinn she is able to help the professor through fixing the timer. There is an amazing jail style break where they raid the compound where the timer had been hiding. It had been confiscated but they are able to get it back and that is when Quinn and Gillian help Arturo fix it.

Just as it seems our heroes are going to be reunited there is another complication.

The vortex isn’t active on the astral plane. This means Quinn must be left behind. So our Sliders go through thinking it’s the last they’ll ever see of him.

As they all go through Gillian is looking at and talking to Quinn. Then miraculously after he’s accepted his fate another different colored vortex opens on the astral plane and he is able to slide through.

He lands in the bushes much to the delight of his slider friends.

This was another highly entertaining episode that I definitely suggest you watch. It’s probably more so for the guys but still well worth.

The Sliders find themselves on a world where there seems to be an abundance of beautiful women. When they first slide in they suspect it is a nice Saturday afternoon at the fisherman’s wharf and all they see are good-looking women walking around.

The professor is studying a toy store to learn about how they entertain their children when a little girl walks out and Rembrandt says hi to her. She looks frightened and calls out to her mommy and then a horde of women are swarming around the three male sliders.

The guys don’t understand what’s going on but Rembrandt suspects he is a big-time celebrity in this world as well.

But later they come to find out it is far more insidious than that.

They later learn that this world has had its men attacked by a virus. During a war in the Middle East a virus which attacks the Y. chromosome was released and the poison cloud spread across the globe. It seems 99% of the men all over the world were wiped out by this deadly virus. Only a select few survived.

Now it’s a death race to see who can repopulate the fastest.

Australia because of its remote location was spared more than any other place. Most of their men died to but they started out with 1100 in the race to repopulate which is vastly more numbers of men than any of the other industrialized nations have. The men are rounded up and put in breeder camps.

They are taxed to the max sometimes having to mate six or seven times per day.

So our Sliders are definitely worn out here. They meet up with a man who has a sympathetic ear in the steam room and his wife and sister have been planning his breakout for many months. So they get involved and trust him which turns out to be a good thing.

For some reason even though this guy can be with tons of beautiful young women every day he just wants a monogamous relationship with his older wife.

So the Sliders break out and are holed up in this hideaway house. They’re staying there with their newfound friend and his wife.

They contact Wade at the hotel so they can meet up and slide out to the next world but she is followed by the cop. It takes on a very Anne Frank feel from there.

The men are hiding out upstairs in a secret compartment behind the closet.

The cops bust down the door and start searching everything but don’t find anything. But then they go into the bathroom and see that the toilet seat is up and so the jig is up. They know the guys are there.

A daring break out ensues and they end up at the Australian consulate. If you’ll remember America and Australia are the two powers that are fighting the hardest to get the repopulation done.

Wade hatches a scheme to exchange her Slider friends for the Australian Trevor Grant who has been captured and breeding with the Americans.

The plan ends up coming to fruition and they meet up with Quinn at the statue of Abraham Lincoln. Once again they barely make it out of there with the skin on their necks as the Bureau of repopulation and the San Francisco police detective girl are hot on their trail. But all these two ladies see is the beauty of the vortex as the men are jumping through it.

What world will our sliders find themselves on next?

It was another funny episode which highlights how different our perspectives can be even when observing the exact same event. The human mind is a crazy and fascinating thing and has the ability to distort the true reality that is really happening and twist it into what we want it to be to match our own internal reality.

In this episode our romantic hero Ted is having a difficult time dealing with his mother’s new boyfriend. No sooner do they talk with Ted than they make a big announcement… they’re getting married.

This sends Ted into a tailspin of sadness and depression as well as self-analysis of where his life is and where he thought it would be.

“My mother is getting married for the second time and I haven’t even been married the first time”. These words haunt him as the wedding rapidly approaches.

Also he is quite uncomfortable with Clint who is about to be marrying his mother and becoming his stepdad. The guy is pretty crazy and likes to get high and is a real true hippie. This doesn’t sit well with Ted that his mother is so ecstatic. She has the rose colored glasses on for sure.

At the wedding Clint starts singing an incredibly inappropriate song about Ted’s mom’s sexuality and her breasts and everything which makes Ted nauseous. But it was a very moving song because it moved Barney to tears. Barney is the ladies man and above emotions. At least that’s what he wants you to think.

Much hilarity ensues because Robin had observed it and Barney offered to pay her $500 to corroborate his story that it actually was her doing the crying.

But Barney goes a step too far because he keeps harping on this and making fun of her in front of their friends until she reveals the truth. He attempts to dispute her story with the facts of what he says really happened but goes a step too far and his friends see through his ruse.

Ted makes a major life decision in his crazy emotional state. It turns out to be a very bad decision and I highly recommend you check out the episode to find out what it was.

Pumkin Head, Haunted House - Halloween, Wilmet...
Image by california cowgirl1 via Flickr

First they slid onto this nice world and they are heavy one Ryan in the group.

You remember back from the final episode of last season he had won the lottery and was scheduled to die. Apparently he has some doctor or surgical skills and even though he had a devil of a time he was able to dig the bullet out of Quinn’s shoulder. Quinn had been sleeping for most of the slide but they awaken him right before it’s time.

Wade says Ryan asked her to stay here with him but she broke his heart and said no. So they all make the next slide.

The sliders must have felt like they had crossed some bridge into a Halloween haunted house.

They find themselves in a world that is completely overrun and completely believes in the occult.

This world is absolutely gone mad and instead of doctors they have sorcerers and shaman. Last episode we left off Quinn had been shot and they were searching for a way to help him get better. He was still feeling the aftereffects of healing from the bullet wound. His shoulder and head were aching.

So as Rembrandt goes through the phonebook he is seeing nothing but sorcerers and shaman. But then he comes across one doctor Xang and thinks he has hit the mother lode.

Unfortunately once they get to the doctor Xang they find out that he is just a shaman calling himself a doctor.

He does some hocus-pocus on Quinn and Quinn says his head actually does feel better. But then the bill comes.

One of the unfortunate side effects of sliding is that they never really have any money. Sometimes they have some cash but when you slide into a parallel world you never know if the cash is going to look exactly the same or if someone’s going to think it’s counterfeit. And they usually aren’t there long enough to get jobs and be able to make money.

So this lack of financial resources puts our sliders in an underdog position at the outset. They are faced with many challenges they would not have back at home having their normal financial resources at their disposal.

Anyway, this doctor Xang ends up helping Quinn but charges a ridiculous bill of $266.

They run out on the bill thinking that it was a fraud and everything will be okay. But in this world the documents they signed say if they don’t pay the bill then the sorcerer gets to choose one body part from the patient as his payment. Doctors Xang of course chooses Quinn’s brain.

So it was quite a strange world but they end up going to the sorcerer everyone is so afraid of. They cross the Golden Gargoyle Gate Bridge to get to him only to find out that he is actually another Quinn. He has been sliding and made lots of money on this world.

He has very extensive and advanced sliding equipment and technology. So he offers to help them.

They slide toward the end of the episode and get back to a world that is extremely similar to their own. But the litmus test as always is whether the gate on Quinn’s house squeaks.

He checks the gate and it’s completely free of any squeaking noise. So their heads all droop and since they only had 53 seconds on this world they are forced to slide back out again.

But you just got the sense that something was up.

And the truth becomes clear that they’ve actually found their way back to their home world. The sorcerer Quinn had helped them to do so. Quinn’s mom walks out and she is talking with the repair man and he says he has fixed the gate and shows her that it no longer squeaks.

Just a tantalizing start to this early part in the season as they were home and yet they did not have time to see it. Of course the show would’ve been over had they stayed but that’s another matter.

This is definitely an episode worth watching.
