The ominous last days of the sliders. Could it really be?

Quinn, Wade, Rembrandt, and Professor Arturo find themselves trapped on a planet with an asteroid coming right at them. The asteroid is due to hit in a little under two days and the timer on the sliding device says a little over three days they will be there.

So obviously this creates a time dilemma and the conflict is set right at the start of the show. How will our heroes get out of this one?

At first I was led to believe that they would again run the timer forward and play with their destiny. But apparently the timing device has been damaged or shorted out so they can’t actually slide out of the world whenever they want to. They are forced to allow the timer to run out and that is the only chance they get to slide.

Predictably the world has gone mad.

There is widespread looting and rampant craziness going on all over the place. Our group finds themselves at the start of the episode seeing these two strangers making out on a park bench wildly. Humans have thrown all caution to the wind and abandoned any normal behavior because the end of the world rapidly approaches.

The sliders are looked at as aliens because they don’t know what’s going on. They find themselves in this electronic shop and the owner of the store can’t believe they don’t know what state the world is in.

They can’t think of anything offhand which is going to save them or get them to slide before the asteroid hits so Wade suggests they look for their families on this world. Rembrandt goes off on his own and they all make a pact to meet back at the electronics store at 5 PM on Friday.

They go off on their separate adventures and have a little bit of a party. Rembrandt stumbles into an end of the world party and has a good time. Quinn and Wade find themselves getting closer and end up making out. Prof. Arturo meets up with Conrad Mellish and they start work on an atomic bomb to blow up the asteroid.

In this world Einstein couldn’t deal with the moral constraints of unleashing the atom bomb on the world so he tells Pres. Roosevelt during World War II that it is impossible to make an atomic bomb. There simply isn’t enough uranium available on Earth to make it happen.

But Conrad never believed Einstein. He’s a crazy crackpot scientist who says it can be done. And Prof. Arturo agrees with him and so the two of them start working together even though Arturo has great disdain for Conrad.

They get things done and at the end there are more surprises. You should definitely take a look at this episode.

Parenthood TV show is one of NBC’s rising new stars and I must admit that I have gotten hooked into this very gripping, engaging, and compelling show. And this has all happened even though I’m a young guy and don’t have a wife nor any kids of my own that I know of.

One of the big-time storylines on the show is the boy named Max who is about 10 years old and is suffering from Asperger’s syndrome.

This has brought to light for many Americans this high functioning version of autism.

This was an episode with lots of drama revealed when the sister Julia and her husband believed that their daughter Sydney also may have asperger’s syndrome. Julia goes to Christina who is the wife of her brother Adam for advice since they are the parents of Max.

Christina gives Julia the doctor that they use with Max so that he can evaluate little Sydney for them. The good doctor tests Sydney and finds her to be gifted and that she is probably bored in school which is what’s causing her misbehavior and her acting out which is disrupting class.

And the patriarch of the family named Zeke (who is played by coach Craig T. Nelson) reveals that he made a bad real estate investment. He took out a second mortgage on his main home to get into this property and now many of the properties around it are going into foreclosure. He also hints that he might be going into foreclosure on this property and as well it might affect his main house being taken away from him.

This is quite an unexpected and unwelcomed revelation to his number one oldest son Adam.

And there is other drama when Crosby another one of the sons has recently learned that he has a five-year-old son. His son Jabbar’s birthday is coming up and his mom’s family dislikes Crosby because they believe he abandoned Jabbar.

The birthday party isn’t going well but then the mother steps in to reveal that she did not tell Crosby about Jabbar and has been lying to them for the full five years. After this revelation the families then come together and have an outstanding birthday party. I guess it’s true that you can’t spell families without “lies”.

The episode left off with a couple of things dangling including when and how Zeke is going to tell his wife that they are in big-time financial trouble.

Also the rebellious daughter Amber who is the daughter of the other Braverman girl Sarah has made a great realization in her life. Sarah and her daughter Amber are becoming closer and we shall see how this plays out over the coming weeks.

If you haven’t yet watched the show I highly recommend you get into it. You can see the latest few episodes on hulu.com in order to get caught up.

The original Sliders.

Sliders –> The dreaded Q. This episode sees the Quinn Mallory on the current world as patient zero the man who has spread the dreaded and in curable Q which is a disease that causes fever and fairly rapid death from the time that you first contract it.

It seems to be spread both airborne and by any sort of touch from one who is infected.

At the start of the episode our sliders find their adventure in this crazy awesome world of wealth where everybody is discovering oil in their backyards and are megamillionaires. But alas this wouldn’t be a show if they stayed in this kind of paradise for long and the slide timer only reads 20 minutes on this world.

So within the first minute of the episode they are on to the New World with the dreaded Q. fever epidemic.

Quinn Mallory is the most wanted man as patient zero and there is a $1 million reward for his capture. As you might suspect they end up catching the slider Quinn thinking it is their Quinn.

They subject him to all sorts of technical medical tests and other types of torture. They poke and prod him to find out what is going on and how he has found a cure because the Q is no longer present in his body.

Wade the pretty young woman in our adventure is almost hit by a moving truck when they first slide in and is saved by someone who is infected with the Q. She kisses him on the cheek not knowing of his infection and ends up getting it herself.

They end up running around on this episode attempting to figure out what is going on and how to cure it.

They actually go outside the quarantine zone where this world’s Quinn is and has basically a safe house set up for people who are infected. He wants to give them humane treatment and dignity before they die.

Mr. Arturo asks this Quinn why this strain of this fever is resistant to antibiotics. The Quinn looks at him like he is crazy and has no idea what he’s talking about.

The professor then realizes that they haven’t even tested a rudimentary form of penicillin to see whether it would break this disease. He looks in the trashcan for some mold and whips up a MacGyver like concoction of penicillin. It was totally homemade and awesome.

He didn’t have any of the medical tools but he ends up making a concoction that breaks the fever and cures the world. They slide out just in the nick of time as the powers that be are crashing down upon them.

The final moments of this episode they slide into a world full of cannibals. Before they go though the professor says “biology is for those who don’t have the maths for real science”. Classic nerd stuff.

It was action-packed and worth watching.

Allosaurus fragilis, an allosaurid theropod fr...

The adventure on this episode that we might expect. Just from the title you expected for dinosaurs to be involved and this did not disappoint. I’m a big dinosaur fan so I should say that right up front that I was predestined to like this episode.

And it’s another cool episode where they do two slides during this.

First they are about to slide off of this world that has these truth collars. This culture basically favors the unvarnished truth over everything else. In fact it’s a felony to remove the truth collars.

What the truth collars actually do is somehow they can contact detect when you’re telling a lie and they send you an electrical shock every time you do. The bigger the lie the bigger the electrical shock. And if you’re a habitual liar it can kill you.

So our heroes are stuck with these truth collars on themselves and they’re constantly getting shocked.

Wade ends up being chatted up by this reporter from Hard Copy and she ends up telling him the whole story about sliding. The guy was from hardcopy brings his news crew and films the whole thing as they slide off of this world.

They slide into this wooded area and immediately notice there’s no San Francisco anywhere around. The professor also observes that there is no urban noise of any kind either.

And then they hear this loud roar. Coming out of the vortex Wade has landed on and accidentally crushed these 2 extremely large eggs. So that begs the question who or what created these eggs?

This dinosuar appears and they have to make a run for it. During the race they are being chased by this giant Allosaurus when the professor trips and ends up probably breaking his ankle. They still are able to get away and get him into a cave.

But unfortunately the timer has fallen out of his jacket.

Quinn says that he will go back for it because they don’t want to get stuck on this world. They get some help from a holographic park ranger who first thinks they are poachers. They may end up being able to find the timer. One of the poachers appears and asks for their help. Park ranger has already told them that she found the body and they think it’s Quinn’s but it ends up being the poachers park.

Rembrandt and Wade take turns going out searching for Quinn and he ends up finding Wade.

The poacher puts his own life on the line to go out to protect her and ends up getting eaten when his gun jams.

The hologram reappears because they took out the jamming signal that the poacher had so she comes back. Park Ranger tells them she knows where their slider is and that they have an hour and a half. She ends up being mistaken.

She leads Quinn to the timer but they have only 2 1/2 minutes left and they are forced to make a mad dash to all meet up at a central point. And this mad dash is tough for a man to do on a broken leg especially an older man like Arturo.

But they end up barely making it into the vortex and land basically in a similar type of world with the with the wooded San Francisco area. It’s actually an archaeological dig and right before the vortex opens up the head of the dig says “This is the most extremely well preserved Allosaurus skeleton I’ve ever found or seen”.

Of course the vortex opens and they jump out close to the area but miraculously don’t manage to damage any of the Allosaurus skeleton. Then Quinn takes a step and crushes one of the bones, a fossilized leg from what I can tell.

All in all a great adventure and one of the top five episodes of slider so far.

    Kids Playing in the Rubble

This episode has probably one of the best starts yet as they find themselves in a war zone on the run. It’s almost like they were transplanted in Bosnia circa 1995.

There are gunshots and mortar shells blasting off everywhere. It’s an amazing scene of carnage and destruction something out of a post-apocalyptic scene.

There’s destruction and trash everywhere. There’s piles of old rusting metal cars. It’s an incredible scene. They don’t seem to know what to do nor where to go but they stumble into an abandoned building and find a place to hide. The slide is almost upon them.

There’s a young woman who is also hiding here and her crazy psychotic boyfriend is desperately searching to find her. He is calling out her name Michelle over and over. Finally she comes out and he starts to beat on her.

Quinn has a heroic moment and the culture he grew up into simply cannot allow him to let this stand.

So he intervenes in the lover’s quarrel. Of course he doesn’t have any fighting skills so he gets beat down pretty good but Rembrandt comes and knocks the guy out from behind. They run to the slide and invite Michelle to come off of this world with them.

But her boyfriend Sid was not totally knocked out and gets up quick. He starts running after them and sees the vortex open up.

Obviously, he has no idea what it is but he saw his beloved girl go into it and disappear and so he jumps in as well. Where they land is no picnic because the New World they come to find out has San Francisco as a penal colony.

There’s a strange buddy system where you are paired with one other person via a bracelet. It’s meant to keep people honest. Since these are all convicted felons if your buddy commits a crime then he and you are executed on the spot. An interesting and also devastating way to dole out justice.

    But it’s also very effective.

The new character LJ says that it’s been a very good way to keep the city from tearing itself apart. Especially because there’s a massive earthquake on the way that’s going to strike any time which is going to obliterate California. Seismologists say the Technomic plate is literally going to break apart and fall into the ocean sinking.

This is obviously disturbing news for our Sliders and they are wanting to do anything they can and praying that the earthquake won’t hit before the slider timer is ready to go.

There’s some intrigue as the powers that be find out about the technology because LJ tells them. And also the guards are told by Sid what has happened when they had him in a hostage situation. Sid is clever and gives them a reason to keep him alive.

It all comes to a head as things start shaking and you just get the feeling that the big one is coming. This is the earthquake which is going to take out California.

Then the jaded Michelle who comes from a world where guys always be on their women comes through for them. She kills Sid and ends up sliding with the main four group to the next world.

Like a lot of other episodes you get a glimpse into what happened to the world they just left. The shaking increases, the electricity goes off, and everything goes dark.

I strongly urge you to watch this exciting episode.

This is a multiple slide episode. On the first world our Sliders are only there for a few moments but they witness a crash and then both men get out of their cars and one of the men shoots and kills the other man. He then drives off.

Wade runs over in an attempt to help the man who has been shot and he gives her this cryptic message about LC, eight o’clock, the rock, and 54. He hands her this matchbook from the Top Hat nightclub and it contains a disc.

The other unusual thing about this world is it has bearded ladies. I’m talking literal bearded ladies. Not all the ladies have full beards. Most of them simply have a mustache and a goatee but it’s quite unusual to see.

They end up sliding into an almost identical world.

When they first enter they happen upon the events that they seem to have just seen. It is totally like Déjà Vu the movie with Denzel Washington. They’re seeing things that just happened to them in the past but are currently happening in the present on this world.

The car crash happens and the two men get out but this time Wade says “Watch out that man’s got a gun”.

And so this time the guy who was shot on the previous world pulls his gun instead and kills the other man who happens to be a cop. He gets into his car and storms away while the Sliders have no idea what is going on with the situation.

But they come to find out they are in the dark and suppressed world.

      J. Edgar Hoover became president shortly after World War II and outlawed the abridged Constitution and has completely expunged the Constitution and the amendments from the public record.

It’s a world of brutal martial law.

Typically our Sliders cannot accept this. And so they decide to get involved and intervene again. They get entangled in this cloak and dagger world looking for this girl LC at the Top Hat nightclub. Even though this nightclub looks plain and ’square’ there is more that lies beneath the surface.

They end up hooking up with this girl Natalie who is part of the resistance who wants to bring the Constitution back into vogue and get it out to the public. She takes her to the secret compartment and the underground world that is right beneath the Top Hat nightclub. Unfortunately the cops have been following them.

They bust in and take out most of the underground resistance.

But the Sliders and Natalie escape and so the disc lives on. Wade and Quinn had looked at this disc on a computer here in a computer store earlier and found out that it was an unabridged version of the Constitution.

But they decide to make a trade for Judge Nassau who is the leader of the resistance and has been captured. They agree to trade the disc for his life and a signed document from Pres. LaRouge granting immunity from all future prosecution. The martial law powers-that-be reluctantly agreed to this deal and deliver on their end of the bargain.

Nassau is handed over to them and they in turn hand over the only copy of the Constitution on the disc. As our Sliders leave this world though the camera pans over to the computer store.

Apparently they never cleared the cache on the browser and the Constitution is still up there. A couple of customers and the computer store manager see it and begin e-mailing it out and it gets out to the world anyway.

Definitely take a look at this episode because it’s something that could happen. Martial law has been instituted in various other places and we need to guard against it happening anymore.
